The funeral for Bill Mayberry, 87, of Woodward, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at First United Methodist Church, Woodward. The Rev. Charlie Graves will officiate. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery , Buffalo. Arrangements are by Billings Funeral Home, Woodward. Visitation with the family will be 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born April 12, 1921, in Cabol, Mo., to Fred and Virdia Jackson Maybery and died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Woodward Regional Hospital.

He moved to Oklahoma at a young age and received his education in a one room school house. In 1936, he worked in a lumber camp and later moved back to Oklahoma, where he worked on several different farms. He then enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938, where he worked for two years. He married Nina Faye Mobley Sept. 24, 1939, in Buffalo. They lived in several towns in Colorado, where he worked in the gold mines. He worked for C.W. Annis before going into the Army. After his discharge he returned and worked for C.W. Annis for 15 years. They moved to Selman in 1958, and farmed, retiring in 1994, then moved to Woodward. She died July 28, 2007.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he had served on the church board and the ASCS board. He served on the Buffalo Farmers Coop and served 18 years on the Harper County Water District Board, serving as president for eight years. He also served on the Northwestern Electric Coop 12 years and carried mail part time for 17 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Peterson of Guymon and Rita Loopey of Derby, Kan.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Nina, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church building fund or American Heart Association.
