Edward Eugene Pierce, age 72, of Hollis, passed away, Thursday morning, September 6, 2012, at Colonial Manor, in Hollis.

Mr. Pierce was born in Wright City, Oklahoma on December 13, 1939, to William and Margaret (Ervin) Pierce. Moving to Hollis at age 6, Gene attended Hollis School and married the love of his life, Shirley Hays, on March 27, 1961, and spent the next fifty-one wonderful years together before his death. Through the years, Gene coached little league and was a Boy Scout leader while Joey was participating in these activities. Running the antique store and the McKnight Store kept Gene busy over the years.

A veteran of the United States Army, Gene was proud to have served his country and had the privilege of serving with Elvis Presley in Germany. In his spare time, Gene taught each of his grandchildren to fish and enjoyed driving around town giving people a hard time. Gene also enjoyed camping out, fishing and playing the lottery, that he was always going to win.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby Pierce.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Pierce, of the home; two children, Joey Pierce and wife Debbie of Houston, Texas and Patricia Faulks and husband Lee of Hollis; nine grandchildren, Marissa Morales, Brennon Hensley, Hannah Faulks, Auriel Verser and husband Daniel, Veronica Pierce, Will Pierce, Shelly Pierce, Katie Pierce and Jenny Pierce; one brother, Henry Pierce of Tulsa, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Gene Pierce will be at 4 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Hollis Nazarene Church with Pastor Jim Fishback and Pastor Tyrone Campbell officiating.
