Rachele Mullen, age 88, of Hollis, passed away late Saturday evening, March 12, 2011, at Colonial Manor II Nursing Home, in Hollis. Mrs. Mullen was born on August 26, 1922, in Kinta, Oklahoma to Ernest and Fleecy (Miller) Faries. Growing up on Tucker Knob Mountain in the Quinton and Wilburton, Oklahoma communities, she found her way to Oklahoma City during World War II, to work in the McDonald Douglas Plant. With a friend at work writing another soldier, she soon began writing Omar Mullen.

On September 6, 1945, she married Omar Mullen and shortly thereafter moved back to Stigler. Not long after, they moved to the Shinney Community, northwest of Hollis, where they farmed. In the early 1960’s, Omar became disabled and they moved to the Carl Community. After Omar’s death in1980, she moved to Hollis where she lived until her death. Collecting dolls, sewing, cooking and gardening were some of Rachel’s favorite hobbies.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mildred Brown and Virginia Tyrell, two brothers, Herman Faries and Odes Faries.

She is survived by two children, Coy Mullen of Hollis and Linda Gail David and husband Jack of Woodward; six grandchildren, Terry Don Mullen and wife Shelley of Mangum, Rachelle Beasley and husband Steve of Springtown, Texas, Angie Miller of Woodward, Shawna Murphy of Woodward, Robin David of Vici and Dan Cooper and wife Carol of Spokane, Washington; twenty great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Rachele Mullen will be at 2 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2011, at Independence Cemetery, near Vinson, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis. Online tributes may be made to the family at www.HarmonCountyFuneral.com
