Harmon County Funeral Home

Talmadge Davidson, age 89, a resident of Gould and a lifelong resident of Harmon County, passed away Sunday morning, August 10, 2014, at Tamarack Assisted Living Center in Altus.

Talmadge was born in Harmon County on December 7, 1924, to Isaac Hadden and Ida May (Rivers) Davidson. He graduated from Louis Hill High School in 1942, and after high school he went to welding school in Chicago. He then worked at the Army Ammunitions Plant in McAlester. In 1944 Talmadge entered basic training in the United States Army at Fort Hood, Texas. While on furlough he married Mona Hunter on February 27, 1945, at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on the hill in the Bethel Community in Harmon County. They were united in marriage for over 58 years before Mona’s death in 2003. After serving in the Philippines and receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Talmadge and Mona established their home in Harmon County. They resided there for the rest of their lives. Talmadge worked his farm and raised his family, and at the age of 34 he went back to school at Altus Junior College. He then received a Bachelor’s Degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Education and Mathematics, and he also later received a Master’s Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University - all the while maintaining his farm and taking care of his family. He taught math at Altus Central Junior High and taught night classes at Altus Junior College for four years. Talmadge then taught math at Hollis High School for 25 years until he retired from teaching in 1990. Talmadge accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He took on many responsibilities at the church when he was young, taught Sunday School classes, and was a deacon in the church for many years. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Gould before transferring his membership to First Baptist Church in Hollis. Talmadge enjoyed working and farming and his career as a math teacher. His students were active in SWIM contests in math at SWOSU, winning many awards. He was proud of raising registered Shorthorn cattle and show cattle. He loved his family and took care of them. He also was an avid domino player. He will be missed very much.

Preceded in death by his wife Mona in 2003 and one sister, Louise Kenmore;

Talmadge is survived by one son, Terry Davidson and wife Nancy of Altus; one daughter, Diane Basler and husband Bob of Leedey, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lindsey Smith and husband Brent of Edmond; Colby Davidson of Gould; Joel Basler and wife Jennifer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Kristin Hoskins and husband Curtis of Wichita Falls, Texas; five great grandchildren, Kyndall, Emma, Katie, Lily, and Sadie; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
