Harmon County Funeral Home

Gene Williams, 69, of Hollis, Oklahoma passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 at Harmon Memorial Hospital, in Hollis.

Gene was born January 3, 1947, to WC and LaVerne Williams. He grew up in Gould, OK on the family farm and graduated from Gould High School in 1965. In 1970, he graduated with a BS in Biology from SWOSU, then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1971. Gene married Phyllis McCullough on August 15, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Owasso, OK. They moved back to Hollis in April 1974 and purchased Searcey’s Drug Store in October of that year. They enjoyed owning and operating Searcey’s, cheerfully serving the Hollis community for 21 years. However, Gene was most proud of their two beautiful daughters, Linnie Jo and Gena Kaye.

Gene was a gifted musician with a great love for the Lord and a servant’s heart. While in college, he became the first music director and pianist of the Christian traveling choir known as the Missionaires, and he continued to play for worship services and special events throughout his life. In 2008, he found his calling as a missionary for Baptist Medical Dental Missions International. He served on the BMDMI board and looked forward every year to serving on several mission trips. Gene was an active member of the Corinth Baptist Church.

Gene was a certified scuba diver and loved sharing these adventures with his girls and friends, and he was known world-wide for his big bear hugs and contagious smile. He was always larger than life and lived each day to the fullest. Gene came and went on his own schedule and left this earthly world in the same manner. He was an encourager and friend to everyone he met. If you met him, you were his friend. Gene touched many lives and introduced many people to our Lord Jesus Christ. He will be missed by many, but rest assured he is enjoying a happy, joyful time in heaven.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, WC and LaVerne, and his younger brother Richard. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughters Linnie and her husband Devin Wilcox of Sand Springs, OK, and Gena and her husband Kyle Sutton of Arlington, TX; brother Jimmy and his wife Mary Paul of Gould; and grandchildren Dalton Payne and Dax Collier Wilcox of Sand Springs, OK.

Viewing will from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Harmon County Funeral Home in Hollis, Oklahoma.

The Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Corinth Baptist Church, located 10 miles south of Gould, Oklahoma with Pastor Brent Kellogg officiating. Interment will follow at Gould Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.

"In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Baptist Medical Dental Missions International at giving.bmdmi.org in honor of Gene Williams.
