Leon M. Hicks, age 94, of Lone Wolf, passed away at noon, on Friday, July 13, 2012, at Elkview General Hospital, in Hobart.
Mr. Hicks was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on March 18, 1918, to Harry Chester and Maude Frances (Reeves) Hicks. After graduating from Hollis High School in 1937, he married the love of his life, Norma Edra Cavness, on October 24, 1937, in Hollis, and they spent the next seventy-four wonderful years together before her death on January 27, 2012. After their marriage, they established their first home in Gould, where he worked for the bank. Shortly after WW II began, Leon joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as a supply clerk on a Landing Ship Medium (LSM) boat from June 2, 1944 until April 20, 1946. Shortly after returning from the war, Leon opened an abstract office in Harmon County which he owned until June 5, 1972. In October 1968 the family moved to San Antonio where he worked in an Industrial Chrome Plant until May 28, 1975. Moving back to Oklahoma, Leon worked at Quartz Mt. State Park until May 10, 1976, when he retired. Leon and Norma lived at Lake Lugert from 1975 until their deaths. Riding motorcycles and wood working were some of his hobbies. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Treasurer at First Baptist Church, in Hollis, and was a 32nd Degree Mason for over seventy years, receiving his 70 year pin on April 7, 2012.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, he is survived by three children, Courtney Cavness Hicks and wife Margie of Lone Wolf, Connie Cavness Heath and husband Terrell of Lone Wolf and Jan Cavness Owens and husband Leon of Altus; eight grandchildren, Chad Hicks, Caryl Mills, Tina Pennartz, Chris Heath, Todd Heath, Terra Krajca, Brandon Williams and Autumn Syrus; three sisters Margie Wilson and husband Homer of Colorado Springs, Janet Horton of Frederick and Elsie Green of Denton, Texas.
Funeral services for Leon Hicks will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
