Harmon County Funeral Home

James (Jim) Lewis Fishback, Sr, 66, of Vinson, OK, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2014 with his family by his side.

Jim was born on December 5, 1947 in Richland, MO the son of Oliver and Kathleen (Harris) Fishback. He graduated from Kansas City College and Bible School. He married Darla Sanders January 9, 1969. The family, along with many friends, has lost a wonderful human being. His passions were his family, ministry, and music, and his sense of humor, contagious laughter, and unrivaled guitar picking will be greatly missed.

Jim honorably served his country for two years as a Boatswain’s Mate in the U.S. Navy, which included a tour to Vietnam. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.

After receiving the call to ministry, Jim began his Pastoral career by starting the Gentry Church of God (Holiness) from 1984 until 1990. This church remains open for worship to this day. His ministry took him to the Olathe Church of God (Holiness) from 1990 until 1993 when he became the Pastor of the Church of God (Holiness) in Garland, TX. In 1996, his ministry took him to Hollis, OK where he began pastoring the Hollis First Church of the Nazarene. Jim fell in love with the people and land of Southwest Oklahoma and quickly became a loved and well-respected member of the community. Jim faithfully served the church and the Hollis community for seventeen years and planned to retire while fulfilling his lifelong dream of farming in Vinson.
His life was interrupted, but while he was on this earth, he loved people, and his smile and charming ways can never be replaced. Jim was one of a kind.

Those who will miss Jim the most include his Wife – Darla; Children: James L. Fishback, Jr and wife Mary of Bentonville, Arkansas, Michael D. Fishback and wife Kim of El Reno, Oklahoma, D. Michelle Fishback of Amarillo, Texas, and Jonathan Richard Fishback of Vinson, Oklahoma; Grandchildren: Bradley, Brittany, Allen, Meagan, Brandon, Michael, Celeste, Laura, Orin, Tommy, Justin; Siblings: Susan Kaye Almaraz and husband Rafael of Dallas, Texas, Vicki Lynne Fishback of Bentonville, Arkansas, David Allen Fishback of Winlock, Washington, Debra Jean Almaraz and husband Alfonso of Lancaster, Texas, Paul Mark Fishback of Stockton, California, Kathleen Anne Long of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a host of other family members to include aunts, uncles, cousins, and many nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends.

He was reunited in Heaven with his Mother, Mary Kathleen (Harris) Poe; Father, Oliver Lester Fishback, three brothers, Michael Dean Fishback, Thomas Oliver Fishback, Jonathan Richard Fishback; one sister, Wendy Elizabeth Tucker; one nephew, James Oliver "Ikey" Stanley, and many other loved ones.
