In 1960, Emory became the Postmaster of the Vinson Post Office, serving there for twenty-two years while continuing his farming and ranching business. He and Doris shared the position of reporting to the National Weather Bureau in Norman, Oklahoma for forty-five years. Emory served on the Harmon Memorial Hospital Board and Cave Creek Cemetery Boards for a number of years.

Emory loved fishing and taking kids fishing. He always had time for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and playing dominoes. He worked hard at everything he did, including growing a large garden and giving away most of the produce. Doris passed away in November of 1996. Emory married Ruby Patrick in May 1998. Ruby passed away while they were living at Colonial Manor II Nursing Home in 2010. Emory had retired from farming in 2008. Emory made a profession of faith at the arbor in Vinson as a child.
