Posted by Jo Aguirre

Cora Jane (Coleman) Chambers, age 95, of Mangum, passed away late Tuesday evening, August 6, 2013 at Grace Living Center.
Cora was born on October 26, 1917 to Allen Franklin and Dollie (Beaver) Coleman on Haystack Mountain in Greer County.

As a child, Cora’s family moved several times as her father rented farms. She remembered walking across pastures, by the Ellis Place southwest of Reed, on her way to school. Cora attended school at Sulpher, but later went on and proudly received her GED. Cora married Loyd Paul Chambers on November 28, 1936 in Vinson, Oklahoma and they would spend the next fifty-five wonderful years together before his death in 1991. They always lived within two and a half miles of their first home, where they farmed and ranched. Cora and Loyd were blessed with one child, Gerald, who now lives within a half mile of the original home place with his wife Wanda. Cora loved the country life, even though it was very difficult at times. She loved watching the cotton, wheat, calves and piglets grow and when deemed necessary, shooting those pesky rattlesnakes and bobcats. In 2010, when her health began to deteriorate, Cora moved to Grace Living Center, where she enjoyed bingo, going to church services and listening to singing.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband and five sisters: Anna Merritt, Cinderella Bogart, Jodie Mitchell, Malean Mitchell and Etoyl Cooper.

Cora is survived by one son, Gerald Chambers and wife Wanda of Vinson; five grandchildren, Pamela Chambers Cook and husband Mark, Jason Chambers and wife Waynette, Rod Neal and wife Sharon, Bruce Neal and wife Beverly and Terri Truelove and husband Jerry; eighteen great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. Cora was the last living sibling of her family and the last in-law of the Loyd Chambers Family, passing from this life at ninety- five years ten months and six days, as a result from complications of blood clots.

Funeral services for Cora Jane Chambers will be at 2:00 pm Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Vinson Baptist Church with Frank Chambers officiating. Interment will follow at Cave Creek Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
