John H. Jackson, age 87, passed peacefully into eternal life on June 15, 2012. He followed his wife of 66 years, Irma Jo, who passed into Heaven two weeks earlier on June 2, 2012.
John was born on September 3, 1924 at the family homestead in Beckham County, the oldest child of Emmett and Mary Jackson. He graduated from Ocina High School and later moved to Atlanta to work repairing aircraft engines during WWII. He married Irma Jo on January 27, 1946 in Willow, OK and they soon moved to Oklahoma City where their children, Tom and Devon, were born. John worked for Magnolia (Mobil) as a truck driver, and later worked for OG&E where he retired after 25 years of service. He was an avid gun collector and was a licensed gun dealer for many years. He had a passion for history, a love for cars, and enjoyed reading and learning. John and Irma Jo were active members of the First Baptist Church of Moore for over 35 years where he could always be found greeting people at the door, or taking the offering during services. He later worked on the security desk. He and his wife were members of the Good-Timers, sang in the senior choir, and traveled extensively with the senior group. John will always be remembered for his easy-going personality and his endless supply of jokes.
John was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, Norman, and his sister, Jo.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Nelms of Mustang, OK, his son, Dr. Tom Jackson and his wife, Donna of Salmon, ID, his daughter, Devon Nunemann, and her husband, Paul of Denver, CO, three grandchildren, Alison Davis, Erin Jackson, and Ryan Finley, three great grandchildren, Luke Moore, Hunter Davis, and Hailey Davis, as well as his sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
The family wishes to thank his niece, Veronica Buffington, for her unending love and care over the past two years after John and Irma Jo moved to their final home in Elk City, as well as the staff at Elkwood Senior Living Center.
