J. E. Blankenship, age 94, of Willow, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 24, 2011, at Kindred Hospital, in Oklahoma City.

Mr. Blankenship was born on September 17, 1917, in Lula, Oklahoma to Charlie and Lilly (Parker) Blankenship. When J.E. was seven years old, the family moved to Southwest Oklahoma where he attended Star and Ocina Schools. At a young age, J.E. began farming and working on the Katy Railroad. Due to his job with the railroad, the family lived in several communities in Southwest Oklahoma. On August 19, 1937, he married the love of his life, Ruby McGee, in Sayre, Oklahoma and they spent the next seventy-four wonderful years together before his death. In the early 1940’s the family settled in the Willow Community where J.E. farmed. A hard worker all of his life, J.E. was a member of the Carter Cooperative Board for many years and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time and being with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Zelma “Sister” Dyer, Thelma Fite, Hazel Rippetoe and Lillian Rippetoe, one brother, T. C. Blankenship, one son-in-law, Ron Fair and one daughter-in-law Shirley Blankenship.

J. E. is survived by three children, Donnie Blankenship and wife Judy of Oklahoma City, Jean Fair of Yukon and Mikie Blankenship of Willow; six grandchildren, Tammy Blankenship, Shawn Mosley and husband Larry, Shalynna Blankenship, LaGenna Attebery and husband Mike, Lewis Berry and Melissa Vaught and husband Rodney; six step-grandchildren, Blaine Litle, Craig Litle and wife Laura, Jamie Fite and husband Nicky, Cody DeGraw, Amber McIntire and husband Johnathan and Wendy Wheeler and husband Brandon; twenty-four great grandchildren; one sister, Nora Witt of Carter; two brothers, Earl Blankenship of Carter and Bert Blankenship and wife Bobbie of Amarillo, Texas along with many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for J.E. Blankenship will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the Willow Church of Christ with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
