Rethia Leola Wynn, age 100, passed away in Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus, on October 25, 2015.entered eternal bliss when she was welcomed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

The daughter of Allen and Allie (Bass) Wynn, Rethia, (lovingly known as “Pete” by her family), was born October 10, 1915, in Eudora, Arkansas. When Rethia was only one month old, the family moved to Marshall, Texas. It was there at the age of 6 she started to school in a one room school. In 1928, when Rethia was 13, they moved to Greer County, Oklahoma. Rethia and her siblings then attended White Flat and Reed Schools.

Rethia accepted Christ as her Savior and became a member of the Nazarene Church in 1933. A devout Christian, Rethia gave her time caring for the disabled, ill or elderly all of her life. She was a frequent visitor of shut-ins and nursing home residents as long as her own health allowed. Rethia was a remarkable woman. Her choice of career reflected her deep concern for others. Rethia became a licensed practical nurse in 1948. Nursing was her profession until she retired in 1983. Her love for children was expressed through her volunteer service as camp nurse at the Nazarene Church Camp in Anadarko, Oklahoma. This was a very important part of her life for many years.

Following retirement, Rethia remained a dedicated member of Democrat Women, American Business Women’s Association, VFW Auxiliary and the AARP Organization until her death. Always active, Rethia, at age 91, attended a weekend convention in Oklahoma City with her Democrat Women’s group.

In 1987 Rethia began caring for and loving the new born baby of her neighbors, Tom and Linda Tamez. As baby Tommy grew, Rethia became known as “Grandma Rethia” to Tommy and his younger siblings Eric, Michael and little Rethia. This young family became children and grandchildren Rethia had never known. After graduating from high school in Donna, Texas, young Tommy came to live with his beloved Grandma Rethia and attend college in Altus.

Preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Allie Wynn; four sisters, Lou Ware, Levonia Kerbo, Avis Peters, Beatrice McElroy; eight brothers, Judge Wynn, Stanley Wynn, Nolan Wynn, R.E. “Pud” Wynn, Curtis Wynn, Doveard Wynn, Otis Wynn and Emory Wynn; two nieces, Rita Kay Brown and Dorothy Wynn and two nephews James McElroy and Dwayne Wynn, she is survived by sixteen nieces; six nephews; 5 sisters-in-law; 44 great nieces and nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews and her adopted Tamez family who mourns their beloved “Aunt Pete” or “Grandma Rethia”.

Funeral services for Rethia Wynn will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel, in Mangum.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, of Mangum.
