Walter Sherman (Shorty) Abrams, died Sunday at Elkview General Hospital in
Hobart. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Greer Funeral Home Chapel in
Mangum with the Rev. Thomas J. Spence, retired minister from the Russell Baptist
Church officiating.
Burial will be at the Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum with Greer
Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He was born January 5, 1901 in McLoud to Thomas J. Abrams and Anna Ward Abrams.
He married Mabel Ophelia Brown in Tecumseh December 10, 1924 and moved with his
family to Greer County in 1947. He was a farmer and also worked for the state
park service at Quartz Mountain. He also worked as a police dispatcher and was
a member of the First Baptist Church in Mangum.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Abrams of Hobart and Bob Abrams of Mangum;
three daughters, Freda Bryan, Ermalene Matthews and Mildred Estep, all of
Mangum; a brother, Joe Abrams of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren and 19 great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel in 1970; a son, Vernon in 1968, a
brother Bernie and three sisters.
