Mary Lela (Tudie) Boyd, age 79, of Mangum, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010, at her residence.

Tudie was born on July 31, 1931, at Reed, Oklahoma to Walter Luther and Georgie Irene (Walkup) McAlister. Attending school at Reed, she married Robert E. “Gene” Boyd on September 20, 1948, in Wellington, Texas, and they moved to Centralvue where they farmed. In 1958, the family home burned and they moved to Mangum where she lived until her death. While living at Reed, she was a switchboard operator and waitress. After moving to Mangum she refinished furniture for Pete Stover and later taught lessons about refinishing furniture at the community center. Tudie also served as a nurse’s aide and after Gene became ill and began dialysis, she became a dialysis technician in order to care for him. She later worked at Teen Town and Greer Funeral Home until her health began to fail. Working in the yard, gardening, painting and doing crafts were some of her hobbies.

Preceded in death by her parents, three infant sons, her husband, and two sisters, Vada McAlister and Wanda Jones.

She is survived by three children, Donna Heardt and husband Ben of Marlow, Robert Boyd and wife Mona of Duke and Debbie Brooke and husband Mark of Bartlesville; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, John B. McAlister of Lawton, Mike McAlister of Indiahoma and Pat McAlister of Frederick; one sister, Patricia Ferguson of Mangum and many other relatives and friends.
