Nathan Andrew Shaffer of Pond Creek, Okla., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the age of 40. Nathan was born Sept. 4, 1974, in Enid, Okla., to Jerry and Jan Shaffer.

He graduated from Pond Creek-Hunter High School in 1993. Upon graduating from high school he completed OT Autry Tech in Enid, specializing in engine mechanics.

After graduation he took a position at Gas Jack, working on large gas compression units. In 1995, he moved to McCloud and was employed with Estes Incorporated as a driver and salesperson. It was here he met and married his love, Melissa Dawn Lawson on Sept. 28, 1996.

They continued to reside in McCloud for two years before returning to Pond Creek, where Nathan was self-employed with NGM Trucking and various other jobs. Pond Creek is where they chose to raise their two sons, Garret Price and Jake Warren.

While in Pond Creek, Nathan took a position as a mechanic at Vance Air force Base in Enid for five years, after which he returned to work with NGM trucking until his election in January 2015 as Grant County Commissioner District 3, where he served until the time of his death.

He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pond Creek, where he taught Sunday school, served as a trustee, and on various committees.

Nathan also enjoyed watching his children play sports, farming, working his cattle, riding his Harley and spending time with Melissa and the boys. His family and friends will always remember Nathan for his big smile and the love he had for life.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Melissa Shaffer of Pond Creek; two sons, Garrett and Jake of Pond Creek; his parents, Jerry and Jan Shaffer of Pond Creek; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Sheila Shaffer of North Richland Hills, Texas, and their daughters Jennifer Brown and Ashley Nunn; his brother, Jerren Shaffer of Pond Creek and his daughters Tiffany and Patricia Shaffer.

Nathan also was survived by many other extended family members who admired and loved him as uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and son-in-law.

Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Warren and Faye Bolinger and Price and Orpha Shaffer.

Funeral service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at First Baptist Church, Pond Creek, Okla., with Les Washnock presiding. Graveside service will follow at Pond Creek Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nathan’s life.

The family would like to thank the Grant County community for their love and support during his illness. Also, thanks to the doctors and hospital staff that attended to Nathan through his treatments.
