Pond Creek Cemetery


Hunter – Funeral services for Albert Dale "A. D." Hughes, 80, who died Tuesday evening, in an Enid hospital, will be at 2 PM Friday in the Hunter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kent Woods officiating. Burial will be in the Pond Creek Cemetery, with the Anderson Funeral Home of Garber in charge of arrangements.

Hughes was born January 9, 1900, in the Pond Creek community and grew up there. He and Meta Smith of Jefferson were married March 31, 1923, at Enid. They established a home in Hunter, where he was employed by the Enid Milling Company.

His later was manager of elevators at Nash, Camargo and the Knowles. He was a partner and manager of the Thompson, Wilson and Thompson Grain Company at Hunter for 38 years.

Hughes was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Oklahoma Grain Dealers Association and the Hunters Lions Club. He was Lions Club Secretary for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife Meta of the home; two children, Red Hughes, Enid, and Jane (Mrs. John) Gaines, Magnolia, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, four great – grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Leona Skaggs and Mrs. Velma Skaggs, both of Nash, Mrs. Beulah McCart, Pond Creek and Mrs. Eva Bobeck, Little Rock, Arkansas; three brothers, Lawrence Hughes, Lawton, Bill Hughes, Miller, South Dakota, and Byron Hughes, Marigold, Mississippi.

The family has suggested that those who wish make contributions to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in Hughes memory. Contributions may be made direct or through the funeral home.
