New Home Cemetery


ENID, Okla. — Alma Marie (Yoder) York was born March 4, 1917, the first born child of Daniel and Eva (Zimmerman) Yoder in Jet, Okla. Alma had five sisters and three brothers.

She grew up on a farm south of Jet and graduated from high school as class valedictorian in 1935.

She married LeRoy York, son of Arthur and Pearl (Bratcher) York of Nash, Okla., and settled on a farm near Arthur and Pearl and lived there until early 1972, when she and LeRoy moved to Nash. LeRoy passed away Jan. 3, 1977.

Alma remained in Nash until August 2010, when her children strongly suggested she try “assisted living,” which she reluctantly agreed to. Alma lived at “The Arbors” in Enid, Okla., for two years before moving to Golden Oaks in December 2012.

Alma is survived by four children, Nita Chestnut and husband O’Neil of Mustang, Okla., Bill and wife Lavonna of Nash, Okla., Pat Cronkhite of Enid, Okla., and Tom of Nash, Okla. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She also is survived by two sisters, Doris Selley and Joan Freeman and two brothers, Ron Yoder and Bob Yoder and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral service for Alma Marie will be 2 p.m. today, March 22, 2013, at Nash Christian Church. The Revs. Kelly Cronkhite and Richard Cravens will officiate. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery, Nash. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
