May 26, 1927 - March 02, 2018

Lester Loren McKeeman passed away on March 2, 2018, at the Wakita Community Health Center. Lester was born on his family's farm outside of Jefferson.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1945, and went on to earn a degree in Divinity at Phillips University in Enid.

While there, he married Velma Holman in 1947, and they had one daughter, Nancy.

Lester was a minister in several churches in Kansas and Illinois while furthering his studies in divinity, and later in education. He began teaching in 1963, primarily in Sedgwick, Kansas.

In 1974, the decision was made to move to and begin operating the family farm. While farming, Lester opened a cabinet shop in Pond Creek and became the minister at the Congregational Church of Medford. After closing the shop and later retiring from the church, Lester continued to farm, garden, and enjoy family until his passing.

Lester is survived by wife Velma McKeeman, daughter Nancy and Johnny Moats, Chickasha; grandchildren, Teresa Geary, Enid, Michael and Kristi Nelson, Pratt, Kansas, and Daniel Nelson, Littleton, Colorado; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters; Ruth McElroy, Enid, and Julia Welch, Wichita, Kansas.

A memorial service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Les Washnock officiating.

October 31, 1927 - December 17, 2019 Velma Illeen McKeeman passed away on December 17, 2019, at Integris Bass Hospital in Enid, OK. Velma was born to Cecil Lester and Helen Muriel Holman in Kansas City, MO, on October 31, 1927.

She graduated from Hennessey High School and taught at Spring Valley School for one year before moving to Enid to work at Montgomery Ward. There she met and married Lester McKeeman in 1947, and they had one daughter, Nancy.

Velma spent many years as a homemaker and minister's wife while living in Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois and Kansas. She later worked for Vulcan Materials Company in Wichita, KS; for Farm Bureau in Medford, OK; and Long's John Deere in Medford and Enid, OK. Velma enjoyed her family, feeding people, gardening, flowers, sewing and her animals. Velma last resided at the Community Health Center in Wakita, where she was lovingly referred to as Grandma by the staff.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Nancy and Johnny Moats (Chickasha, OK); three grandchildren, Teresa Geary (Enid, OK), Michael and Kristi Nelson (Pratt, KS) and Daniel Nelson (Littleton, CO); and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Donna and Larry Sitton (Show Low, AZ); brother, Dan and Donna Holman (Gardner, MO); three sisters-in-law, Betty Holman, (Dearborn Heights, MI), Ruth McElroy (Enid, OK) and Julia Welch (Wichita, KS).

A memorial service will be held at Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK, on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Community Health Center of Wakita, OK, or McKeeman (Fairview) Cemetery.
