© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma April 12, 1932 March 18, 1847 ~ August 9, 1932 Rev J. F. Tippett was born March 18, 1847 in Granville county, N. C. He professed faith in Christ at the age of 19 years and united with the Baptist church at Cowee, N. C. He accepted the divine call to the Christian Ministery and was ordained to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ April 13, 1905, and was faithful to that sacred calling as long as his health would permit. He also served his country during the Civil war, serving under Captain Silar in the 39th regiment and Colonel Polk's Calvalry at Cumberlan Gap. He was united in marriage to ........... . To this union was born 10 children, of which, she and seven children preceded him to the great beyond. He was united in second marriage to Martha Lucinda [Peek] Williams Tippett, September 29, 1886. To this union was born 10 children, one of whom preceded him in death. He moved to Oklahoma about January 1907 and united with the Verden Baptist church immediately after his arrival, together with his wife and three of the children. He departed this life August 9, 1932 at the age of eighty-five years, four months and twenty-one days, and leaves an aged wife and twelve children: A. L. Tippett, Culberson, N. C., T. C. Tippett, Atlanta, Ga., W. T. Tippett, Franklin, N. C., Rev Charles Tippett, Oklahoma City, and Lee, George and Frank Tippett, and Mrs Cora Foster, Mrs O. H. Hall, Mrs Ted Janssen, Minnie and Margaret Tippett, all of Verden, Oklahoma. He also leaves a number of grand and great grandchildren together with a host of friends to mourn his departure. |
© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma April 9, 1948 October 14, 1863 ~ April 8, 1948 MRS MARTHA TIPPETT PASSES AWAY THURSDAY Mrs Martha Lucinda Tippett, 84, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at her home, route 2, Chickasha. Tenative plans are for the funeral service to be Sunday afternoon at the Verden Baptist Church. Mrs Tippett, with her family, moved to their home north of Verden in 1907 where she lived until three and a half months ago when she and two of her daughters moved to Chickasha. Children surviving her include three sons, Charles M. and Frank S., Oklahoma City; and George, Verden; five daughters, Mrs Cora Foster, Miss Minnie Tippett and Miss Margaret Tippett, Chickasha, Mrs O. H. Hall, Anadarko, Route 2, and Mrs Ellis V. Hurst, Outlook, Montana, and one stepson, W. T. Tippett, Franklin, North Carolina. © The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma April 16, 1948 SERVICES HELD FOR MRS MARTHA TIPPETT Funeral services for Mrs Martha L. Tippett were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Verden, with Rev. John Kelly, Anadarko, officiating. Music for the service was furnished by a vocal duet from Anadarko. Casket bearers were grandsons of Mrs Tippett: James Hall, Fearl Tippett, Verlos Tippett, Floyd Tippett, Howard Foster and Frank Reddings. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery. Martha Lucinda Peek was born October 14, 1863. Departed this life April 8th at the age of 84 years 5 months and 25 days. Was converted and united with the Baptist Church at the age of eleven years and has lived a devoted Christian life ever since. Has been unable to attend church for the last several years because of ill health. She was married to J. J. Williams, May 20, 1880. To this union was born one son. This union was dissolved by the death of her companion June 29, 1883. She was married to Reverend James F. Tippett at Franklin, North Carolina, September 29, 1886. To this union was born ten children. The eldest having died in early childhood. She was preceded in death by her husband August 9, 1932, and a son Joseph Lee who was forty seven years of age at the time of death. The eight surviving children are all present, being: Charles M. and Frank S. Tippett of Oklahoma City, George Tippett, Verden, Mrs Cora Foster of Chickasha, Mrs O. H. Hall, Anadarko, Mrs Ellis V. Hurst, Outlook, Montana and Misses Minnie and Margaret Tippett of Chickasha; with whom she had made her home since December 24, 1947 and who have had the constant care of her for over seven years, during which time she has been an invalid. She also has one surviving stepson, W. T. Tippett, Franklin, North Carolina, also three brothers and two sisters. Forty grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. Mr and Mrs Tippett moved from Franklin, North Carolina with their family in 1907, and settled near Verden, Oklahoma. They purchased a farm north of Verden in 1911, where the deceased resided with her son, George and daughters, Misses Minnie and Margaret until her recent move to the latters new home in Chickasha. Music for the service was furnished by a duet composed of Miss Norma Jean Morgan and William B. Chatham who sang "Where We⤙ll Never Grow Old," and "Home Over there." Mrs John Kelly accompanied them. All are from Anadarko. © The Anadarko Daily News Anadarko, Oklahoma April 11, 1948 SERVICES FOR GRADY WOMAN SCHEDULED HERE Services for Mrs Martha Lucinda Tippett, 84, who died at her home west of Chickasha Thursday, will be at 2 p.m. today in the Anadarko First Baptist Church. Rev John R. Kelly, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Verden. Mrs Tippett had lived at Verden for 40 years before moving to Chickasha last December. She is the mother of Mrs O. H. Hall who lives here. Other survivors are three sons, Charles and Frank of Oaklahoma City, and George of Verden; five daughters, Mrs Hall of Anadarko, Mrs Cora Foster, Miss Minnie Tippett and Miss Margaret Tippett of Chickasha, and Mrs Ellie V. Hurst of Outlook, Mont.; one stepson, W. T. Tippett of Franklin, N. C., two sisters, Mrs Nannie Rone of Modesto, Calif., and Mrs Delphi Oxley of Oregon; three brothers, George, S. E. and Tom Peek, all of Alabama, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. |

Paul Hampton of Verden. Music was provided by Mrs Bert Heisler of Duncan, accompanied by Mrs Don Brown at the piano. Active pallbearers were Will McVey, Garvin McComas, Paul DeBoard, F. J. Hardy, Elmer Kinke, and Alfred Walkee. Honorary pallbearers, Claude Roper, Albert Hakee, Wendell Briscoe, Ed Unruh, Kenneth Westland, Freeman Moore, Alvin Deason, Roy Evans, Roy Talkington, Cliff Morgan, Elmer Parr, Emmett Watson, Q. J. Smith and Henry Herr. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma October 29, 1937 May 27, 1890 ~ October 25, 1937 Joseph Lee Tippett, son of Rev. J. F. and Lucinda Tippett was born at Franklin, North Carolina, May 27 1890. Passed away at his home October 25, 1937 at the age of 47 years, 4 months, 22 days. He had been ill for some time due to cancer. He was married to Mary Edith Dayton on October 14, 1912. To this union was born one daughter, Neatha Olive, April 6, 1914. He was converted and united with the Baptist church at Verden in 19_3 and was baptized by Rev. C. W. Taylor. He led a devoted, consecrated Christian life and was loved by all who came in contact with him. He was a leader in the promotion of anything good and upright for his fellow man. He is survived by his wife and daughter, son-in-law, his devoted mother, Mrs J. F. Tippett, three brothers, C. M., George and Frank Tippett, and five sisters, Mrs Cora Foster, Mrs Ethel Janssen, Mrs O. H. Hall, Misses Minnie and Margaret Tippett, and a host of friends. He was made a member of Verden A. F. & A. M. Lodge on February 5th, 1921. Members of this lodge held Masonic services at the Verden cemetery before the body was laid to rest. Pall bearers were G. C. McBee, H. G. Hinkle, G. H. Allen, E. W. Peters, Claude Roper and Ed Maguire. Hansen Funeral Home had charge of the burial arrangements. |
