Verden, Oklahoma June 1942 October 1, 1892 ~ June 24, 1942 Sudden Heart Attack Takes John Sparks John Sparks died at his home south of town Wednesday evening about 5:30 o'clock with a heart attack. He had complained of not feeling well and stayed in the house all day. He lay down on the bed with his head in his wife's lap talking when the fatal attack struck him. Mr Sparks opened a grocery store in 1926 in Verden being a very successful business man. He retired to his farm south of town about 6 months ago. Mr Sparks won friends far and nesr by being congenial, honest and true to his fellowman, his friends and business grew. He was a kind and loving father to his family. His health has been declining for the past three years. John Sparks was born in Corinth, Miss October 1, 1892. He was 49 years, 8 months and 23 days old. He was united in marriage May 29, 1923 to Gertrude Hughes in Gainesville, Texas. At the age of 13 years he joined the Baptist church. The funeral services will be held here at the Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. either Friday or Saturday. They have not decided, pending on relatives getting here. He is survived by his wife, two sons, John Jr and J.D. Sparks, and 1 dsughter, Georgia Fern. Four sisters, Mrs Sam Lewis, Post, Texas; Mrs W. A. Beazley, Clovis N M; Mrs Tibna Cantero, Verden and one brother, J. D. Sparks of Oak Creek, Colo. Interment will be made in Verden cemetery with Hansen Funeral Home in charge. |
