Weatherford, Oklahoma August 2018 February 5, 1924 ~ August 17, 2018 Homer A. Smudrick of Weatherford, OK., formerly of El Reno passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 in the Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Weatherford, OK. He was born on February 5, 1924 in New Boston, Texas. Homer had worked for Ross Feed and Seed then the United States Post Office, and sold Real Estate for many years before retiring. He came to Chickasha Oklahoma in 1945 then moved to El Reno in 1950 and lived here until 2016 when they moved to Weatherford where they have resided since. He served in the U.S Army during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon there. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., DAV, and Kiwanis. Homer loved Golfing, Fishing and Playing Domino's. Mr Smudrick was preceded in death by his parents: William Lee & Ida Estelle (Azlin) Smudrick, Wife: Dorabelle Pleasant [Turner] Smudrick, Infant son: Homer Paul Smudrick, Brother: Odis Ray, Smudrick, Sisters: Minnie Mae Campbell, Edna Barthel, Dorothy Leona McElwee. Survivors include: 3 – Daughters: Joyce Elaine Strong & husband Stephen of Tulsa, OK, Mary Frances Kusch & husband Dennis of Fairview, OK, Betty Jean Flaming & husband Lowell of Clinton, OK., Grandchildren: Kristin Strong Roop & Husband Jeremy, Kourtney Strong Prideaux & husband Jason, Hayley Kusch Abbott & husband Aaron, Nicholas Kusch & wife Brooke, Emberly Flaming Kincer & husband Chad, Ryan Luke Flaming & wife LaReesa., 17 Great-Grandchildren and 2 – Sisters: Dell Brussard of Lake Charles, LA. and Jean Kuykendall of Idabel, OK. Numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services for will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, in the First Baptist Church. Rev Charlie Blount, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery in Verden, Oklahoma with Military Honors. |
Weatherford, Oklahoma September 2017 November 22, 1926 ~ September 26, 2017 Dorabelle Pleasant Smudrick passed away Sept. 26, 2017 in Weatherford, OK. She was born November 22, 1926 in Verden, OK to Mars and Lucy [Graves] Turner. Dorabelle graduated from Verden High School and was a homemaker during her life. Homer met his million dollar baby, Dorabelle, at the 5 and 10 cent store in Chickasha, OK. They were married February 1946. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Reno and past president of WMU. Mrs Smudrick taught Sunday School and Bible school for many years. She was a member of the Young Matron Sewing Circle. Dorabelle was an avid seamstress, who made matching dresses for her daughters, and ended her sewing days with their wedding dresses. She was a fabulous hostess for family reunions and was willing to let anyone who needed a place to belong to join her family. Dorabelle loved her sisters and brothers and was instrumental in their raising. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Homer Paul Smudrick; and brothers, Warren Gene Turner and Wyman Ellis Turner. Survivors include her husband, Homer Smudrick of El Reno; daughters, Joyce Elaine Strong and husband Stephen of Tulsa, Mary Frances Kusch and husband Dennis of Fairview, and Betty Flaming and husband Lowell of Clinton; grandchildren, Kristin Strong Roop and husband Jeremy, Kourtney Strong Prideaux and husband Jason, Hayley Kusch Abbott and husband Aaron, Nicholas Kusch and wife Brooke, Emberly Flaming Kincer and husband Chad, and Ryan Luke Flaming and wife LaReesa; siblings, Isabelle Bryan, Peggy Hodgson, Connie Turner, and Wanda Fenimore; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 2, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in El Reno with burial to follow in the Verden Cemetery, Verden, OK. |

Smudrick, Chickasha, Rev C. W. Taylor officiated. Born Sunday, the baby lived only a few hours. Mr and Mrs Smudrick formerly lived in Verden. Mrs Smudrick will be remembered as Dorabelle Turner. |
