GUS PELZER SERVICES TO BE SATURDAY

Funeral services for Gus Pelzer will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Verden, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 with Rev. Wayne Swanson of Blanchard officiating, assisted by Rev. L. D. Wilkes. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers will be L. E. Winn, W. B. White, Lester Heavin, Orval Heavin, Woodrow C. Ferris and A. V. Heavin. Mrs. Donald Brown will have charge of the music.

Mr. Pelzer died Wednesday afternoon at his home south of Verden. He suffered a heart attack. He had been in ill health the past several years. The Pelzer house and belongings burned April 8.

Gustav John Pelzer was born September 25, 1890 at Halstead, Kansas and passed away at the age of 64 years, six months and 25 days.

He came to Oklahoma in 1893 and to the farm south of Verden in 1902.

He was married to Miss Martha Capps at Lawton in 1915 and to this union nine children were born. One son preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; eight children, Mrs. Anna E. Karnes of Pocasset; Edward C. Pelzer, Modesto, Calif.; Walter D. Pelzer, Bakersfield, Calif.; Albert H. Pelzer, Belleville, Ill.; Willie A. Pelzer, Anadarko; G. E. Pelzer, Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Crow, Ninnekah; Louie Daniel Pelzer, Chickasha; two sisters, Mrs. Augusta Phelps, Bakersfield, Calif.; and Mrs. Bertha Ryan of Chickasha; one brother, Ernest A. Pelzer, Elgin, Okla. and 14 grandchildren.

Martha Susie [Capps] Pelzer Hollowell
August 28, 1898 ~ August 28, 1971


Funeral service for Mrs. Martha Hollowell, 73, will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Verden with Rev. L. D. Wilkes, retired Baptist minister, officiating.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home, Fletcher.

Mrs. Hollowell was born August 28, 1898 in Texas. She died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday in Grady Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.

She was reared east of Fletcher and in 1915 was married to Gustaf Pelzer. They moved to Verden where they lived until his death in 1955. From 1957 to 1968 she resided in California, moving to Chickasha. She was married to Roy Hollowell on Jan 15, 1968 in Fletcher where she had lived since that time.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fletcher.

Survivors include her husband, Roy of the home in Fletcher; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Karnes of Perkins, Mrs. Ruth Crow of Wills Point, Texas; six sons, Edward Pelzer of Modesto, Calif, Walter Pelzer and G.E. Pelzer of Bakersfield, Calif., Albert Pelzer of Belleville, Ill, Willie Pelzer of Cyril, Louie Pelzer of Verden; one sister, Mrs. Liddie Grayson of Hardingen, Texas, one step-daughter, Mrs. Joye Troutt of McLoud; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Hollowell, formerly Mrs. Gus Pelzer, age 73, were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church in Verden with Rev. L. D. Wilkes, retired Baptist minister officiating.

Interment was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home of Fletcher.

Louie Daniel Pelzer
November 21, 1935 - February 29, 2024


Louie Daniel Pelzer, 88, passed away at his home in Cement, Oklahoma on February 29, 2024 after a short time in the hospital.

Louie was born to Gustaf John and Martha Susie Pelzer on November 21, 1935 in the Verden, Oklahoma area. He was raised on the family farm South of Verden. He was the youngest of 9 children. He graduated from Verden High School.

He was in the military from May 12, 1958 to April 17, 1961. Louie served in the Army while stationed in Chicago where he assembled guided missiles.

Louie was married and had two children, Anthony Lee Pelzer, deceased at 39, and a daughter of Cement, Oklahoma.

In 1971, he and his family moved back to the Verden family farm for a few years.

Some of his jobs were hauling hay, working for Donald Robertson and then at a feed lot in Chattanooga, Oklahoma. He bought and managed a gas station South of Apache, Oklahoma. Training at the Oklahoma City Electrical School, Louie began working for the IBEW Local Union 1141 in 1978 until he was 62. His electrical skills were used on the construction of the General Motors Building in Oklahoma City and many other electrical jobs through the years. He was a hard worker. Louie loved to hunt, fish and be outdoors. He was active and always repairing something or helping someone.

He was married to Wreta O'hern and lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They loved raising Schnauzer puppies.

Louie was an excellent caregiver when Wreta became ill.

He had a friend on a farm in nearby Bixby, Oklahoma where he enjoyed working on vehicles and tractors in his friend's barn.

His last 20 years in Cement, he spent time with his best friend Denny Cowan at Gas 'n Go in Cement. They would go to the casino, then he played cards with his sister, Ruth, and his niece. He also visited with his long time friend Betty Barron of Chickasha, Oklahoma and saw her daily when she went into the nursing home.

Louie is preceded in death by his wife, Wreta Louise [Ohern] Pelzer, his son Anthony Lee Pelzer, who was killed in a truck accident in 1991, his parents Gustaf and Martha Pelzer, a baby brother, Anna E. [Pelzer] Karnes, Edward C. Pelzer, Walter D. Pelzer, Albert H. Pelzer, Willie A. Pelzer, G.E. Pelzer, Ruth Evelyn [Pelzer] Crow/Brickey.

He was survived by his daughter of Cement, Oklahoma, two grandsons and one great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Services are provided by Brown and Christian Funeral Home, 400 South Sheppard St., Chickasha, Oklahoma 73018.

Graveside services are pending and will be in the Verden Cemetery, Verden, Oklahoma for Family and Friends to attend.

Anthony Lee Pelzer
October 17, 1959 ~ April 3, 1991


Funeral for Anthony Lee Pelzer, 31, Tuttle, will be held at 2 p. m. Monday, April 8, 1991, in the Verden United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Albrecht, pastor, officiating.

Mr Pelzer was born on October 17, 1959, in Great Lake, IL., the son of Louis Daniel Pelzer and Jackie J. Haskins Pelzer Buchanan. He died April 3, 1991, in a truck accident at Rock Springs, Wyo.

Mr. Pelzer married Janice Mahler on April 18, 1990, in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Mr. Pelzer came to Verden as a small boy. He lived in Verden and attended the Verden Schools until the 10th grade.

He started trucking at the age of 21 in the Chickasha area. For the last two years, he was a driver for Patterson Farms in Garnett, Kan., where he was recently named "Trucker of the Month."

Mr. Pelzer attended the Verden United Methodist Church as a child.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Pelzer of the home; his father, Louis D. Pelzer of Tuttle; his mother, Jackie J. Buchanan of Alex; two step sisters, Lily Marie Ward and Clairessa Moore Shelton, both of Chickasha; three step brothers, Jerry Lynn Buchanan, David Wayne Buchanan and Brian Keith Buchanan, all of Chickasha.

Interment will be in Verden Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Binyon Funeral Home.
