© The Anadarko Daily News Anadarko, Oklazhoma February 4, 1951 April 23, 1860 ~ February 1, 1951 Verden, Feb 4 - Special - Funeral services were conducted Thursday in the Verden Baptist Church for James D. Newton, 90, who died Tuesday at his home in Verden. Rev George Gaidoroff, pastor, officiated and burial was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the Hansen Funeral Home, Verden. In the services, a trio composed of Mrs Donald Brown, Mrs Harry Dodson and Mrs John Kern sang three numbers. They were accompanied by Mrs Herschel Melton at the piano. Pall bearers were John Kern, Kirby Whitley, C. B. Dabney, Johnnie Whitley, Harry Dodson and Dank Pitts. Newton was born April 23, 1860 at Spencer, Iowa. Before coming to Oklahoma, he had lived in Kansas and Arkansas. On July 27, 1929, he married Mae Perkins at Anadarko. Newton was a retired farmer and had been in failing health for several years. Survivors are one brother, John Newton of Wichita, Kansas; his wife, 13 children, 51 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren. © The Chickasha Star and Telegram Chickasha, Oklahoma Monday, April 2, 1906 March 6, 1866 ~ March 29, 1906 Eugene Newton, a single man was found dead on the river near Dick Hanson's ten miles northwest of here Saturday, by Alex Williams. The young man was a hard worker and had worked last for Mike Horan. Near the body was found a dull pocket knife covered with blood. Across the man's throat were three ugly gashes. It appearing that the third attempt was made before he succeeded in his purpose. On his body was found a gold watch and $176 in money. Immediately after discovery the coroner was notified. The body will be buried at Verden. No motive is known for his rashness unless it was disappointment in love. He was last seen in Wednesday night by *John Osborne and appeared to be in good spirits. * Related to Sandi Carter |
