© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Tuesday, February 12, 1974 September 4, 1896 ~ February 10, 1974 Funeral service for William Fred Newberry, 77, Verden, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church, Verden, with Rev Edward Whitley, officiating. Mr Newberry was born September 4, 1896 in Healdton. He died Sunday in Grady Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He married the former Louise Pelzer on March 3, 1918. Survivors include one son, Arthur of Sunol, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs Ethel Gray of Clearbrook, Minn. and Mrs Rosie Blodgett of Wilson, Okla.; four brothers, Elmer and Frank of Tupelo, Charles and Jack of Antioch, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home, Verden. |
© The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Thursday, March 4, 1943 December 31, 1898 ~ March 1, 1943 MRS NEWBERRY DIES SUDDENLY Verden, March 4 -- Mrs Louise Pelzer Newberry, age 44, died Monday evening, March 1. She had gone to the hen house to gather eggs and died from a heart attack. Mrs. Newberry is a pioneer resident of this community, coming here with her parents, Mr and Mrs Edward Pelzer in 1901 and settled on the farm where Mrs Newberry died. Surviving members of her family include her husband, Fred Newberry; two sons: Arthur of Sunol. Calif., and Robert at home; two daughters: Mrs Ethel Gray of Anadarko, Route 1, and Rosa Newberry at home; two brothers: Gus Pelzer of Verden and Ernest Pelzer of Cyril; and two sisters: Mrs Gusie Flowers of California and Mrs Bertha Ryan of Verden. Funeral arrangements are pending on the arrival of Mr Newberry and son, Arthur, who are returning from California. Services will be under the direction of the Hansen Funeral Home. |

Newberry were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with the Rev Hershel Erslinger, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, Cement, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Edward Whitley, pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God. The Pentecostal Church of God furnished the music. Pallbearers were Cecil Winn, Chester Heavin, M. A. Garrett, Lawrence Winn, Wesley Blevins and Melton Singleton. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home. Mr Newberry was born January 18, 1924 in Wewoka and died at his home February 20 of a sudden heart attack. Survivors include his father, William F. Newberry of Anadarko; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Gray of Anadarko and Mrs. Rose White of Cement; and one brother, Arthur Newberry of Sunol. Calif. |
