Henry Elijah Willis

Henry Elijah Willis was born the 6th of 10 children of Miles Henry Willis and Victoria Elizabeth Meggs Willis:

Lige Henry married Ida Mae Chaney on 9.20.1903, in Lufkin, Angelina Co., Texas. She was daughter of Bill Chaney and Georgia Ann Stephens.

Lige Henry was survived by his wife of the home; 5 sons: Charlie and wife Ruby, Snyder, OK; Hester and wife Esta, Rush Springs, OK; Alfred and wife Lois, Oklahoma City, OK; Henry and wife Vera, Frederick, OK; and Harvey and wife Wilma, Sterling, OK; 2 daughters: Luna and husband Emory Ferguson, Oklahoma City, OK; and Allie and husband Donald Ferguson, Oklahoma City, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bertis, and a brother, L. T.

Ida Mae [Chaney] Willis

Ida Mae Chaney was the daughter of Bill Chaney and Georgia Ann Stephens.

She married Henry Elijah Willis on September 20, 1903, near Crockett, Angelina Co., Texas, and came to Oklahoma in April of 1921 in a covered wagon. They lived at Cache and in Tillman County before moving to Rush Springs.


Ida Mae Chaney is survived by her husband Henry Elijah "Lige" of the home; 5 sons: Charlie and wife Ruby, Snyder, OK; Hester and wife Esta, Rush Springs, OK; Alfred and wife Lois, Oklahoma City, OK; Henry and wife Vera, Frederick, OK; and Harvey and wife Wilma, Sterling, OK; 2 daughters: Luna and husband Emory Ferguson, Oklahoma City, OK; and Allie and husband Donald Ferguson, Oklahoma City, OK.

Esta Lucendia [Adams Vandemark Willis

WILLIS, Esta Lucendia Adams VanDeMark Wife of WILLIS, Hester Brown "Heck"

She was the daughter of W. W. and Lillie Adams.

She married Hester Brown Willis in Altus on Jan. 20, 1934.

Survived by three sons, Darrell Willis of Rush Springs, Boyd VanDeMark, also of Rush Springs, and Joe VanDeMark of San Jose, California; and three grandchildren.

Hester Brown "Heck" Willis
February 2, 1908 ~ March 22, 1987


Husband of Esta Lucendia ADAMS VANDEMARK

Born 3rd of 9 children of Lige Henry Willis and Ida Mae Chaney Willis. SIBLINGS: Birtis Elma Willis; Charlie Clay Willis; Alfred Lee Willis; Henry Cole Willis; Luna Mae Willis; Harvey Raymond Willis; Allie Elizabeth Wilis; Lige Tillman Willis.

Funeral services for H. B. "Heck" Willis, 79, were held Tuesday, March 24, 1987, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rush Springs. Ron Newton, pastor of the church, officiated.

Willis was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Malakoff, Texas, and died Sunday, March 22, 1987 at his home on Route 2, Rush Springs. He had lived in Rush Springs since 1935. He was employed at one time by the county and also farmed.

Willis was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He married Esta Lucendia Adams VanDeMark in Altus on Jan. 20, 1934. She was the daughter of W. W. and Lillie Adams.

Survivors include his wife, Esta, of the home; three sons, Darrell Willis of Rush Springs, Boyd VanDeMark, also of Rush Springs, and Joe VanDeMark of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Pat Willis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Harvey Willis of Sterling, Okla.; and Charlie Willis, Snyder, Okla.; and two sisters, Luna Ferguson of Marionville, Mo.; and Allie Ferguson of Moore, Okla.

Burial was in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.

Pall bearers were Wayne Sluder, Cookie Mayes, Ocie Merl Davis, Jim Chaffin, David Hale, and Bill Pate.

Harvey Raymond Willis

STERLING - Funeral for Harvey Raymond Willis, 73, Sterling, will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday in First Baptist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Justin Wright, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Willis died Saturday, August 6, 1990 in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery under direction of Robbins Funeral Home, Fletcher.

He was born July 13, 1917, in Athens, Texas. He was a retired aircraft mechanic and also served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a long time Sterling resident and a member of First Baptist Church, Sterling. He married Wilma Frances Verner Nov. 6, 1943, in Casper, Wyoming.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Robert Glen, Newalla; and Roy Lee, Rush Springs; three daughters, JoAnn Hale, Rush Springs; Carolyn Pilgrim, Geronimo; and Linda Harmon, Blanchard; a brother, Charlie, Snyder; two sisters, Luna Ferguson, Marionville, Mo.; and Allie Ferguson, Moore; 10 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
