Emily Viola [Alexander] Fletcher
October 16, 1906 ~ December 3, 2001


Funeral service for Emily V. Fletcher, 95, of Chickasha, will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2001, in the First Baptist Church, 1st and Dakota Street, with Pastor Abraham I. Walton officiating.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fletcher-Jefferson Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Fletcher died December 3, 2001, in Grace Living Center, Chickasha, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on October 16, 1906, in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to Joseph and Virginia Alexander. She married Rev Clarence Newton; he preceded her in death in 1947. She later married Hosea F. Fletcher [local funeral director], and he died in 1980.

Mrs Fletcher was employed as a school teacher in Gene Autry, Tishomingo and Chickasha for more than 40 years. She was a licensed funeral director at Fletcher Funeral Home and Fletcher-Jefferson Funeral Chapel in Chickasha.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, 1st and Dakota, where sheserved as Sunday school teacher, member of the Sanctuary Choir, WMU Circle #1 and the building fund committee. Mrs Fletcher graduated from Douglass High School and Langston University. She also was in the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Chickasha Human Relations Commission and the Association of University Women.

Survivors include: nieces: Thermaple Webber and Bernice Brannon, Tulsa, Beatrice Brown, Marietta Williams, Betty Stovall and Karen Fannin, all of Chicago, Ill., Ernestine Darthard, Kansas City, Mo., Jo Helen Graham, West View, Calif.; nephews: Dewey Alexander, Kansas City, Mo., Ben and Billy Alexander, Tucson, Ariz.

Friends may call at the funeral home December 6, 2001, from noon to 8 p.m.

Vernie O. Fletcher
May 2, 1922 ~ December 2, 2010


Funeral service for Vernie O. Fletcher, age 88, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Larry Hatfield will officiate.

Vernie was born the son of Oren Emmett Fletcher and Dora Johanon Fletcher on May 2, 1922, in Okemah, Oklahoma. He died on December 2, 2010, in Oklahoma City.

Vernie grew up in the Dutton area and graduated from Verden High School. After graduation, he worked on the family farm near Dutton. He spent most of his life working on the family farm. Vernie moved to Oklahoma City for a few years then moved back to Chickasha where he worked for Grady County.

He loved going to farm sales and auctions and going fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Dora Fletcher; wife, Cleo Fletcher; daughter, Vicki McCollum; two sisters, Clara Pearson & Lorene Hinkle; brother, Orville Fletcher; three half-brothers, Earl, George & Clarence Gardner.

Survivors include: Daughter & Husband: Pamela & Buddy Perry of Newalla, Daughter & Husband: Gayla & Gerald Brown of Chickasha, Son & Wife: Gary & Jeanette Pirtle of Norman. Many Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
