FARMER DEAD IN GUN FIGHT

Shot Fired When Stepfather Points Gun, Witnesses Tell Officers. J.E. Young, farmer living seven miles southeast of the city, was shot to death, and Bennie Carlisle, 23 years old, his stepson, was being held in the county jail Friday night after surrendering at the sheriff's office following the shooting.

Carlisle said he called the sheriff's office immediately, but as deputies sent on the call had difficulty locating the farm, Carlisle drove to the city and gave himself up.

According to Carlisle, his mother and stepfather had been having trouble which caused their temporary separation. Mother and son drove to the farm Friday afternoon to obtain the mother's personal effects.

Trouble did not start until the two prepared to leave, when Young drew a gun and became abusive, Carlisle said.

Carlisle delivered his gun, with one shell empty, to the sheriff. Young, 47 years old, is survived by his wife, a son, William, and a daughter, Mrs Leona Mools/Moots, both of Ninnekah, two stepsons, Bennie and James Carlisle, and a stepdaughter, Mary Carlisle.

All were present at the time of the shooting, according to Ted Foster, deputy sheriff, who, with Carl Traub, justice of the peace, investigated.
