Ernest Joseph Oldshield
March 3, 1920 ~ March 29, 1990


Funeral for Ernest Joseph Oldshield, 70, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 1990 in Becker Memorial Chapel, Lawton with Alvin McConnell, Jr, pastor of Leticia Baptist Church and Fred [Hall] Zotigh of Lawton officiating.

He was born March 3, 1920 in Buffalo, N. Y. to Joseph and Florence Oldshield.

He died Thursday, March 29, 1990 in Lawton after a sudden illness.

He grew up in Buffalo, N. Y. area attending school and graduating from Salamanca N.Y. High School which was located on an Indian reservation.

He attended Cameron University and received a Bachelor Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He also received a Master's Degree from OU in 1952.

Mr Oldshield was a school teacher, teaching at Fort Sill Indian School until the mid-1970's when he transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Anadarko. He retired in 1985.

He was the voice of Christ for the Sunrise Easter Pageant for the past 25 years and had been a cast member for approximately seven years prior to serving as the voice of Christ. He was also the Indian voice for the Thanksgiving Square presented in downtown Dallas, Texas. Mr Oldshield served as a speaker at many different activities and functions.

He held the state of New York Pole Vault Record until fiberglass poles came into use for the sport.

He was a member of the Fort Sill Indian School Alumni Association and served the Indian community in any way possible.

He married Ghlena Doris Thornton on October 12, 1946 in Ninnekah.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of the home; one daughter, Phyllis Jean McHale of Philadelphia, Penn.; one son, Ken Oldshield of Hot Springs, Ark.; one brother, Bennett Wheeler of Steamberg, N.Y.; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

Ghlena Doris [Thornton] OldShield
February 28, 1923 ~ April 7, 2005


Graveside service for Ghlena Doris OldShield, 82, of Lawton, Oklahoma will be held art 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Ninnekah Cemetery.

Ghlena Doris OldShield was born February 28, 1923 in Ninnekah, Oklahoma the daughter of Vernon E. "Judge" and Kathryn [Marshall] Thornton and died April 7, 2005 in Norman, Oklahoma.

Mrs OldShield was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma.

In 1946 she married Ernest OldShield, a Native American born in New York. They resided in Lawton, Oklahoma from 1955 and she remained in their home after his death in 1990.

Mrs OldShield attended Cameron College and began her professional career in 1967 at Fort Sill as a civilian employee. She retired in 1986 as a comptroller in D.I.O.

For numerous years she was active in the federal civilian employees union, traveling extensively as a representative.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Carl Lake.

Survivors include two children, Phyllis, who resides in Philadelphia with her husband John and three children, J. Scott, David and Allison where she is an attorney, and Kenneth resides in Norman with his wife Kathy and is a respiratory therapist; two sisters, Kathryn Maxine Richardson of Oklahoma City and Jeanneane Lake of Gardnerville, NV; seven grandchildren, Shannon OldShield and husband Dick Baker of Greenville, TX, Sarah OldShield of Tahlequah, OK, Kendi OldShield of Oklahoma City, J. Scott, David and Alison McHale of Philadelphia, PA and Danielle Williams; four great grandchildren, Alexija, Fox, Campbell and Raimi OldShield of Greenville, TX; and nieces, Linda Noble of Gilroy, CA and Carol Johnson of Gardnerville, NV.

Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Kenneth Wayne Oldshield, 56, of Norman, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in El Reno, Oklahoma.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Roberts officiating.

Kenneth was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Ernest Joseph and Ghlena "Doris" Thorton Oldshield.

He attend elementary, junior and senior high school in Lawton, Oklahoma.

He was an auto mechanic in his earlier years, and enjoyed working on automobiles. He also enjoyed working on cameras too. He graduated from OSU with a Bachelors Degree and later attended Respiratory therapy school in Arkansas.

He married Kathy Cooper on October 2, 1997 in Norman.

In recent years he had joined a motorcycle club, The Oklahoma Indian Bikers, and throughly enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends.

He and his wife, Kathy enjoyed traveling and exploring the countryside.

Kenneth enjoyed working as a Respiratory Therapist, and taking care of his patients.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordon Oldshield.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Oldshield of the home; three daughters, Shannon Oldshield and husband Dick Baker of Greenville, TX., Sarah Oldshield of Norman, Oklahoma, and Kendi Oldshield and her significant other Jonathan of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; step-son, Michael Nicholson and Fiancé, Angela of Edmond, Oklahoma; step-daughter, Danielle Williams of Norman, Oklahoma; and sister Phyllis and husband John McHale of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Gravesite Details:
Kenneth's cremains were interred on the grave of his father, Ernest J. Oldshield, in the Ninnekah Cemetery, Ninnekah, Grady County, Oklahoma. This is according to the records of the cemetery.
