The Chickasha Journal Chickasha, Oklahoma Saturday, July 11, 1908 December 31, 1885 ~ July 10, 1908 Was the Fastest Roper of The Word - Grew to Manhood in Grady County Ardmore, Okla - July 11 - From injuries sustained yesterday when his horse fell upon him during a roping contest at Pototoc, Milton Beeler, champion steer roper of the world died at his home near Pontotoc today. He was 21 years old and owned two ranches near Pontotoc. His father, who resides near Chickasha, will come here to arrange for the funeral. Beeler was well known throughout the southwest and extensively in the east. He won the world's championship in roping two years ago during a cattlemen's convention at Enid, making the record of roping and tying a steer in 22 seconds. << Milton Beeler was born in a ranch house on what is now the west of Chickasha. That was before Chickasha was even dreamed of. He was Chickasaw by blood and held considerable land near Ninnekah. His father, George Beeler, is president of the Bank of Ninnekah, and is interested in large cattle and land ventures. Milton Beeler was a young man of sterling worth and character. He was of the true, open hearted western type. His death will cause much sorrow in Grady county where he is known to every man and woman that has long been within its borders Beeler was to have been one of the principal attractions at the big Farmer's union encampment and roping contest that is to be held in this city July 23, 24 ans 25. Beeler was a brother-in-law of Hal Thompson of Everybody's Gin and Mill company. |
