Alex, Oklahoma September 15, 1913 October 28, 1834 ~ September 15, 1913 Mrs Martha E. Barker died on September 15, 1913, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Webster Ferguson, near Alex, Okla. She was laid to rest in the Ninnekah Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev W. A. Griffith in the Christian Church at Ninnekah. A large number of her relatives, neighbors and friends attended the service. It was short but a very beautiful and impressive service. Grandma's maiden name was Martha E. Foster, and she was born in Maysvillde, Kentucky on Octiber 28, 1824. She departed this life on September 15, 1913. She lived to be a good old age, being 87 years, 11 months old at the time of her death. She was married to Richard M. Barker in 1851, became a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ in 1873, and was faithful to her Lord for 40 years. She has four children living, J. R. Barker, Mrs Ashel Reynolds of Shelbyville, Ill, Mrs Webster Ferguson of Alex, Okla, and Wesley Barker of Chickasha, Okla. She has twenty one living grandchildren. The text of scripture that she requested to be read at her funeral was the 7th verse of the 4th chapter of Second Timothy: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith." She was always found at her post of duty, regardless of the weather. Grandma loved the Sunday school and the church. In that she possessed a kindred spirit to that of the sweet singer in Israel wh said: "I was glad when they said let us go up unto the house of the Lord." May her mandle of faithfulness follow someone who will carry it on in the Master's name. Grandma, sweet be thy rest, on thy dear Savior's breast; and we will await the glad day when to our Lord we can say, the good fight has been fought. By One Who Loved Her |
