Otey and Mattie Gertrude White Otey on April 17, 1911, south of Verden. He died on November 26, 2005, in Chickasha. April 18, 1911 ~ November 26, 2005 Graveside service for Leonard V. Otey, age 94, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2005, in the Laverty Cemetery. Leonard was born the son of Thomas E. Otey and Mattie Gertrude White Otey on April 17, 1911, south of Verden. He died on November 26, 2005, in Chickasha. Leonard lived his entire live in Caddo and Grady County, where he farmed and ranched. He was a hard working man who also worked in the oilfield while he was farming and ranching. On September 24, 1929, he married Ruby Estella Rawson in Verden. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who especially loved being with his family. He also loved to hunt, fish, and play dominoes. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby, two sons, Jay and Vaughn Otey; son-in-law, L. B. Wyatt; grandson, Ronnie Wyatt; great grandson Clint Wyatt; three sisters, Ruth Talkington, Ruby Townsend, and Blanche Long; brother, Thomas Otey. Survivors include: daughter: Joyce Wyatt of Hydro, OK; son: Dale Otey of Cement; son and wife Delbert and Janet Otey of Corona, CA; son and wife Larry and Donna Otey of Alex; sister and husband: Lois and Bill Dill of Chickasha; brother and wife: Edward and Imogene Otey of Anadarko; daughter-in-law: Freida Michael of Ardmore; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren. © The Chickasha Daily Express Chickasha, Oklahoma Sunday, September 29, 1991 April 26, 1912 ~ September 23, 1991 Funeral for Ruby Estella Rawson Otey, 79, Cement will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept 30, 1991, in Brown-Binyon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herb Patterson, pastor of Pleasant Valley church, officiating and Rev. Kenyon Bush, pastor of Laverty Baptist Church, assisting. She was born April 26, 1912 at Madill, the daughter of Jonas Rawson and Joella Bingham Rawson. She died at home northeast of Cement on Friday, Sept 27, 1991. On Sept 24, 1929, Ruby married Leonard Virginias Otey. They resided in Caddo and Grady counties for their 62 years of marriage. Ruby was a member of Laverty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Linda Gale Otey, who died at birth; one son, Jay Otey, in 1985 and one brother. Survivors include her husband, Leonard Otey of Cement; one daughter Joyce Wyatt of Hydro; four sons and five daughters-in-law. Vaughn and Phyllis Otey of Chickasha, Dale and Dottie Otey of Cement, Delbert and Janet Otey of Corona, Calif., Larry and Donna Otey of Alex and Frieda Otey of Ardmore; four brothers, Charles Rawson of Corona , Calif., Walter Rawson of Ontario, Calif., Horrace Rawson of Houston, Texas, and Richard Rawson of Bethany; one sister, Mary Graham of Rush Springs, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Laverty Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Binyon Funeral |
© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Friday, 19 July 2002 May 21, 1934 ~ July 17, 2002 Funeral service for Vaughn Otey, age 68, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002, in the Bible Baptist Church. Rev Kim Hayes will officiate. Leonard Vaughn Otey was born, the son of Leonard Virginias Otey and Ruby Rawson Otey, on May 21, 1934, in Verden, Oklahoma. He died on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Moore, Oklahoma. Vaughn grew up in the Laverty area and attended Freeman School north of the Laverty community. He began the ninth grade at Pioneer School and graduated from Pioneer. Vaughn worked for his uncle at Dills Phillips 66 from the age of 15 until he entered the United States Army. After his discharge from the Army, Vaughn returned to Chickasha and continued working at the gas station. In 1978 he bought the station from his uncle and operated it until 1989 when he retired. Vaughn was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed being an umpire and referee for twenty-five years. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother. Survivors include: Phyllis Otey of the home; daughter and husband: Gayla and Larry Patrick, of Chickasha; son and wife: Gary and Angie Otey, of Chickasha; daughter and husband: Gina and Terry Schlein, of Duncan; five grandchildren: Derek Bond, Sheena Schlein, Shana Schlein, Kayla Otey and Karli Otey; dad: Leonard V. Otey, of Chickasha; sister: Joyce Wyatt, of Hydro: brother: Dale Otey, of Cement; brother Delbert Otey of Corona, California; Brother: Larry Otey, of Alex; and special aunt and uncle; Lois and Bill Dill, of Chickasha. Interment will be in the Laverty Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Research Foundation (VRF-151), VA Medical Center, 921 N.E. 13th Oklahoma City, OK. 73104. |
