Funeral services for James Albert Whitener, 84, of Ninnekah will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Hatfield officiating.

James Albert Whitener was born February 5, 1919, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, the son of Bertie and Fannie Hoover Whitener. He died Friday, October 3, 2003, at his home in Oklahoma City.

Albert was raised on his parent's farm southeast of Ninnekah. He attended Ninnekah and Alex schools. He was employed with several jobs in his lifetime but most of all, he was a farmer.

Albert and Cora Drewery were married June 25, 1940, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, from this marriage they had two children, Steve Whitener and Kathy Whitener Rhodes.

Albert was a devoted and loving husband, grandpa and great grandpa. His family always came first and he always made sure they were will provided for.

He loved to talk about the good old days, going fishing, playing dominoes and going to the coffee shop to visit with his friends.

He was a hard worker and always did whatever needed to be done. In his 84 years of life he went through many changes enduring all of the good and bad times. He lived life to the fullest, always on the go, keeping busy until his last day. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother and one son, Steve Whitener.

Survivors include his wife Cora of the home, one daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Jerry Rhodes of Chickasha: grandsons, Travis Whitener, of Ninnekah, Jeffrey Rhodes and Jerad Rhodes both of Chickasha; one great grandson: Damon Miller Whitener also of Chickasha, four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and family.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Cora Idabelle [Drewry] Whitener
June 9, 1920 ~ February 21, 2016


Funeral services for Cora I. Whitener, 95, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 26, 2016, in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Cora I. Whitener was born in Grady County on June 9, 1920, to James Carrol “Cal” and Annie Lee [Barefield] Drewry. She passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016, in Chickasha.

Cora attended schools in Ninnekah and the surrounding area. She married James Albert Whitener in Chickasha on June 25, 1940.

She was a homemaker most of her life and helped James Albert on the farm. Cora enjoyed ceramics, sewing children’s books and playing games such as Skip-Bo and Rummikub. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved family reunions. She was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church, Silver Haired Legislature and several home extension clubs.

Cora was preceded in death by both parents; husband, James Albert, in 2003; son, Steve Whitener in 1978; grandson, Travis Whitener; son-in-law, Jerry Rhodes; sisters, Ella Mae Ellis, Estella Massey, Anna Lee Grayson, Pearl Dugger and Betty Ann Clark; brothers, Walter Drewry, Carrol Drewry, Bill Drewry, Bob Drewry, and J.W. Drewry. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Rhodes of Chickasha; grandchildren, Jeffrey Rhodes of Chickasha, and Jerad Rhodes & wife Tiffany of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Damon Miller of Chickasha and Ethan Rhodes of Oklahoma City; sisters, Elizabeth Bowen of Chickasha and Deloris Hatfield of Sanger, TX; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and two special caregivers, Teresa Powers and Shila Love.

Services and interment in Fairlawn Cemetery are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

Travis James Whitener

Funeral Services for Travis James Whitener, 40, of Chickasha will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel with Kim Hayes officiating.

Travis James Whitener was born December 26, 1973 in Chickasha, the son of Steve Whitener and Judy Christian Brown. He died Thursday, March 6, 2014 in Lindsay, Oklahoma.

In 1992, Travis graduated from Buffalo Valley High School located in Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma. He went on to work at Walmart in the automotive department as a management trainee and later as a roofer.

He was a cowboy and enjoyed woodwork, fishing, playing basketball, tinkering with classic cars, and shooting a game of pool.

He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Whitener and his mother, Judy Christian Brown; his uncle, Larry Christian; both of his grandfathers, Albert Whitener and Henry Christian; and his step-father, Roy Brown.

Survivors include his son, Damon Miller of Chickasha; sister, Diedrea Holder and her husband, David of Verden; both grandmothers, Cora Whitener and Edna Christian of Chickasha; aunt, Kathy Rhodes of Chickasha; cousins, Johnathan Christian and Jeffrey Rhodes of Chickasha, and Jerad Rhodes and his wife, Tiffany of Moore; nieces, Destiny Beets-Holder and Kaylee Holder of Verden; step-brother, Osceola Brown of Sand Springs; as well as many other family members and friends.

Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
