Betty Catherine [Nelson] Phariss
October 16, 1928 ~ March 27, 2013


Betty C. Phariss, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 27th, 2013 in Chickasha, after a brief illness.

She was born on October 16, 1928 in Anadarko, to Eli and Nellie [Groseclose] Nelson.

She married Haskel Phariss, he preceded her in death.

She lived in the Chickasha area most of her life where she was a homemaker and devoted her life to raising her six sons and spending time with the grandchildren. She enjoyed playing different types of games with her family. She also enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by three sons: Steven Phariss and his wife, Donna of Ninnekah, Gary Phariss of Dixon, and Mike Phariss of Madill; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, three sons: Lonnie Phariss, David Phariss, Keith Phariss, six sisters and one brother.

Graveside service is set for 2 p.m., on Monday, April 1, 2013at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha. Bill Bradbury will officiate.

Services under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko.

Mabel E. [Thompson] Phariss


Mabel Phariss was born September 12, 1927 in Verden, Oklahoma to Clarence Marcus and Ethel Clark Thompson.

Mabel married Kenny Phariss in Chickasha on August 4, 1951.

Mabel was an energetic member of Chickasha community. She was a excellent craftsperson, winning many awards at the Grady County Fair. She helped organize the Happy Home Demonstration Club in 1949 and actively participated in Extension club activities for over 60 years. The Oklahoma Association of Fairs and Festivals honored her as volunteer of the year in 2006. Mabel also volunteered at Grady Memorial Hospital and for Chickasha's Festival of Lights.

She served as an elder of the First Christian Church of Chickasha.

Mabel died on July 8, 2013 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and was buried at Chickasha on July 11, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenny and her brother Russell Thompson.
