Robert Don "Bob" Paul Sr
March 25, 1925 ~ October 12, 2006

Funeral service for Robert Don Paul, Sr., 81, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2006 at the College Heights Baptist Church, Chickasha.

Reverend Paul Kersch will be officiating. There will be full military rites.

Robert Don Paul, Sr., departed this life for his heavenly home and the most heavenly of golf courses, on October 12, 2006. He was born on March 25, 1925 to Jack G. Paul and Ruby Killingsworth Paul in Delaware, Oklahoma.

He moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma as a child and later met the love of his life, Nadine Lister, at Chickasha Junior High School, who would later become his wife of 62 years. They eloped during his leave from the Marine Corps on January 8, 1945, after seeing action in the South Pacific during WW II. He served in the US Marine Corps for 4 years and later joined the US Army Reserce where he remained for a total of 42 years proudly serving his country in mind and spirit until he drew his last breath. One of his staunchest beliefs was "when your country calls, you go, and go proudly."

Because of his love of sports, he excelled in football at Chickasha High School. After the war Nadie and Bob moved to Miami, Oklahoma where he attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M where he was again outstanding in football.

He later graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. He worked for BF Goodrich for 34 years until his retirment at 60, at that time he never looked back because he had to look straight at the golf ball. Once again an outstanding athlete, he was the golf coach at Northeastern A & M where he led the team to the national junior college tournament. He had 8 holes-in-one after his retirement at various courses throughout the country, and won many tournaments, always happiest when he could beat the "young guys." The Chickasha Golf and Country club gave Bob many wonderful memories and great friends. He had special happy memories of his regular group "The Chislers."

He and Nadine had three children. He continued to remain active in sports throughout their lifetimes, coaching Pop Warner football, Legion Baseball, umpiring, refereeing football and basketball as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference until his retirement at 60. After he retired and in between golf, his "fun" job was with the Grady County Sheriff's office, where he had many exciting experiences and made more great friends. He was CLEET certified at the age of 68, at the time he was the oldest person to attend and pass the certification in the State of Oklahoma.

Bob was involved in many activities during his lifetime, serving on the Miami, Oklahoma school board during his children's school years, which meant he and Nadine were at EVERY school event sometimes to the chagrin of the children. He was instrumental in the building of the new Miami High School in Miami, Oklahoma. He served as director of the Ottawa County Civil Defense after his extraordinary leadership during the flood of the 1980s.

He and Nadine loved to dance, they were country and western instructors at Northeastern A & M for many years which was one of the happiest times of their lives. They and their "students" put on many demonstration dances around the state, including the National Governors Convention at Grand Lake. Bob and Nadine moved back to their home town of Chickasha to assist in taking care of their parents 11 years ago.

He was preceded in death by: one son: Phillip Don Paul; his parents.

Survivors include: his wife: Nadine Lister Paul of the home; one daughter: Pattie Paul Abercrombie and her husband Jim of Chickasha, Oklahoma; one son: Robert Don Paul, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Christian Anthony Paul and his wife Michelle, Justin Paul and his wife Glenna of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Robin Paul of Clearwater, Florida; one brother: Jack Paul of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister: Jimmie Lou Paul of Duncan, Oklahoma; great grandchildren: Layne, Hunter, Brooke, and Jade.

One of his greatest pleasures was his "other child" Poochie Paul, who will also miss him terribly and his "other grandchild" Austin Abercrombie. They knew he loved all animals and they loved him.

His children and grandchildren went to express what a wonderful father and grandfather he was. He never failed to tell them how much he loved them and how proud he was of them. He was a kind gentle soul to his family and loved them unconditionally. He will be greatly missed by everyone who met him.

He was a proud member of the College Heights Baptist Church and also had a wonderful church family.

Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
