Roy Joe Collins Sr
September 19, 1915 ~ May 27, 2009

Roy Joe Collins, lovingly known as "Jake" or "Papa Jake" was born September 19, 1915 in Atoka to William Lonzie and Minnie Viola Mozingo Collins.

He moved to the Grady County area when he was still a lad and attended school at Minco.

He married and joined the Army during the beginning of World War II. After returning, he divorced and later married Wanda Ann Woods, with whom he had children Niki and Viki, twins who died shortly after birth, Roy Joe Collins, Jr. and Mikel Ray Collins.

He and Wanda later went their separate ways and he found joy and happiness with wife, Mollie Warden Collins, until her death in 2000.

Roy worked as a young farmer in Minco, worked for Gooyear in Kansas and later was employed with Boeing. After years with them, he moved on and became self employed as a truck driver, making a later career out of doing upholstery work for the doctors and hospitals at the Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City. Roy was a go-getter and there always was a hustle he could work. He took pride in his knowledge and could out maneuver the best when he had a mind to do so.

Roy was an avid bowler in his later years. He continued to bowl until the ripe old age of 89, at which time he began having such pain in his hip that he could no longer throw the ball. He had an average over 200 and was active on several leagues at the same time. His old hangout was Meridian Lanes and he loved to take up any challenge he knew he could win.

He was a member of the Foresters; American Bowlers Association; American Legion; and Oklahoma Sheriff and Peace Officers Association.

Until he could no longer remember, he knew everyone in the family and kept up with all the news and attended all the reunions wherever there was one to go to. The reunions were something he so looked forward to every year so he could catch up on the comings and goings of all the family.

Roy spent the last few years trying to prove to all he was still fit as a fiddle in his 90s. He finally lost his battle from COPD.

He leaves behind two sons, Mikel Ray Collins and wife Betty, Roy Joe Collins, Jr. and wife Mary, four grandchildren, Mikel James Collins and wife Christy, Timmy Lee Colins and wife Michelle, Shawn Collins, Kevin Collins, three stepgrandchildren, Tiffany Michelle Baker and husband Fabian, Jessica Charlene Fluegel and husband Brent and Bryan Ray Whitney and wife Sabring, great grandchildren, Heath, Hayden, Samantha, Sarah, William, Taylor, Nathan and Faith, a sister Viola Urban of Florida and many nieced, nephews, cousiins and friends.

He left this place to join his parents and be with his maker on May 27, 2009 at the age of 93 years, eight months and eight days.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lonzie and Minnie Collins, two brothers, Lloyd and Floyd Collins, two daughters, Niki and Viki Collins, two grandsons, Terry Lynn Collins and Dawson Ray Fluegel and a granddaughter, Patience Darlene Fluegel.

Roy Joe Collins, Sr. is and will be greatly missed by all.

Services were held on Friday, May 29, 20090 at the First Baptist Church in Minco.

Burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home in Minco.
