Laura "Opal" Cowan, a lifelong Marlow resident died Monday, April 14, 2003 at Gregston Nursing Home at the age of 91.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Fifth Street Baptist Church with Bro. James Croswell and Bro. David Sandifer officiating. Burial was in Bailey Cemetery under the directin of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.

On January 1, 1912 she was born to Elmer Bowman and Effie [Selby] Bowman in Purdy Community, Oklahoma. She attended school at Oak Grove.

On October 24, 1928 she married Louis Frank Cowan in Marlow. He preceded her in death on January 1, 1964.

She was a member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church and former member of the Bray Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cown retired as a cook for Bray Schools and enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and crochet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Loyd Cowan and two daughters Armelda Worden and Leita Faye Cowan.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Horace, Tad Carl and Clarence Bowman and four sisters, Naomi Bowman, Ruby Crawford, Hattie Reese and Lois Riddles.

Survivors include one grandson Gary Worden and wife Nancy of Marlow and three granddaughters, Gail Hallmark and husband Benny of Chickasha, Karen Keese and husband Gary and Kathy Garner and husband Steve all of Houston, Texas.

Survivors also include three sisters, Edna Dillion and husband Bill of Duncan, Wilma Jones and husband Buck of Marlow, and Johnnie Shortridge and husband Dave of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers were Jimmy Pryor, Bruce Crawford, Jackie Crawford, Terry Riddles, Johnny Dillon, Jerry Crawford, and Lynn Dillon.
