May 18, 1927 ~ August 13, 2006


Graveside services will be held for Eula Elizabeth Metcalf, 79, of Roswell, New Mexico at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006, at Amber Cemetery with Brother Cleatis Lee officiating. Eula passed away August 13, 2006, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.

Eula was born to Edward Lee Lindsey and Alcie Elizabeth Williams Lindsey in Pocasset, Grady County, Oklahoma, on May 18, 1927.

She came to New Mexico in 1931, grew up in the sand hills, went to old Crawford School [the teacher was Lois Jenkins], then attended school in Dexter.

Eula worked at the Roswell newspaper and drove a taxi during the 1950s. She and George Metcalf were married on December 22, 1949. He preceded Eula in death. Eula returned to Oklahoma working at Maramont in Chickasha. After retirement she returned to Roswell 10 years ago.

Eula is survived by her stepson, Johnny Metcalf, and his wife, Lou Ann of Roswell; one granddaughter; two brothers, William "Bill" Lindsey and his wife, Teddy, of Dexter and Edward Lindsey and wife, Myra, of Temecula, California; a brother-in-law, Bob Savage of Pocasset, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Nancy Metcalf and her husband John, of Roswell; aunts Betty Waldrop of Artesia and Velva of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Eula was preceded in death by her son, Leland Vann Metcalf, who was killed, October 6, 1959, in Mesa, Arizona; her parents, Edward and Alcie Lindsey; a brother, Louis Lindsey and three sisters, Mary West, Romena Crisley and Clara Savage.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who cared for Eula. A special thank you from the brothers and their wives to John and Nancy Metcalf for the care and love they gave Eula for these past years.

Cremation was under the direction of Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home and Cremetory.
