Reford O. Foster
June 21, 1914 ~ June 16, 2006

On June 16, Reford O. Foster, our loving father and "Papa", at the age of 91, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral services under the direction of Pastor John Freeman will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at the Southern Hills Baptist Church, 2501 West Country Club Road, Chickasha, Oklahoma. A Military Interment will follow at the Alex Cemetery in Alex, Oklahoma following the funeral service under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Reford O. Foster was born on June 21, 1914, in Alex, Oklahoma, to the late Thomas F. Foster and Martha Jane "Mattie" Holbrook Foster. His brothers and sisters included Francis Isabel Foster Bryan, and husband, Harry of Pauls Valley, OK, both deceased, and their children; sister, Geneva Merle Foster Cofer, deceased, and husband Bobby, of Wynnewood, and their children; and Kenneth R. Foster, now deceased, and wife Nina of Pauls Valley and daughter; and step-mother, Mabel of Alex, Oklahoma, deceased; Clarence L. and wife, Carolyn, of Chickasha, and children; Russell Ellis and wife, Lois of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, and children; and Travis, of Alex, Oklahoma, deceased. Reford's wife, Marie Cecil Foster, also, gave Reford a family from the "Cecil" side of the family who were very precious to him and were loved dearly. His many nieces and nephews, Foster and Cecil, were one of his treasures.

Reford married Marie Evelyn Cecil Foster, deceased in 2004, on August 8, 1934, where they owned and operated a grocery store on Main Street in Alex, Oklahoma, during their first years of marriage, however, he was a farmer/rancher for the most part of his life.

They had two children, Larry and Karen. Son, Larry Foster and wife, Gail, reside in Edmond, OK and daughter, Karen Foster Beam and husband, Mike, reside in Chickasha, OK. Grandchildren include Laura Box of Edmond, OK; Michael Beam II of Norman, OK; Chad Beam of Alex, OK, Lindsey Beam of Dallas, TX; Lauren Currens of Colorado and Ann Fields of Washington D.C., along with great grandchildren, Bailey Box of Edmond, OK; Ragain Beam of Alex, OK; and Emma Currens of Colorado. Reford's family were very precious to him and he wasn't afraid of the words "I love you."

Reford was enlisted into the Army, November 18, 1943, serving in World War II. He received the Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, Two Bronze Service Stars, and Purple Heart. His battles and campaigns were listed in Northern France and Rhineland. After being injured, Reford kept record of railroad traffic in France and Germany, and supervised the work of 12 enlisted men and 25 prisoners of war.

Reford's family and friends were his treasure and because of this, he enjoyed his many pictures. Many of his acquaintances probably would be surprised to see their picture on one of his bulletin boards in his den. Reford, also, enjoyed telling stories about the past. He was very proud of his country and loved telling stories of his service in World War II. While treasuring his memories of his family's origin in Texas, including his great grandfather's 24 children, the memories of Alex and Chickasha, including his friends and family during his youth, were his favorite stories. Although Reford's children treasure their memories of both of these towns, including friends and family, the stories their father told were completely different and even much more interesting. Because Reford was very nostalgic about Alex and Chickasha, this attribute was passed on to his children. The stories of Alex and Chickasha, during the old days, were not only enjoyable for Reford to tell but wonderful to hear. He moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma in the 80s and because of his love for Chickasha, the move was very easy. He still traveled to "the farm" at Alex very frequently and kept his post office box. Therefore, his journeys back and forth to Alex and Chickasha were continual during his whole life.

"In our Father's house are many mansions, we hope yours is next to ours! Until then, Daddy." Love Larry and Karen.

Marie Evelyn Cecil was born on October 3, 1916, in Asher, Oklahoma. Her father's name was Marion Dolph Cecil and her mother's name was Lydia Mae Barrett Cecil. Marie's maternal grandparents were born in Lepsig and Heidleburg, Germany and paternal grandparents were Cherokee Indian and Irish.

The Cecils were among the first settlers of South Pottawatomie County and her Dad was known to be one of the most successful farmers of south Pottawatomie County, specializing in Alfalfa and hog raising, and the showing off of horses and their beautiful harness. A quote that was published in the Asher paper was "There was great regret in the community when the Cecil family moved away as it was one of the most enterprising families in school and church affairs and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil and children were most highly respected."

Marie adored her mother, Lydia. They moved to Alex, Oklahoma and on August 8, 1936, she married her husband of 68 years, Reford Foster.

Marie and her husband, Reford, attended the First Baptist Church of Alex, Oklahoma, and lived in Alex up until 1980 when they moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma and lived until now.

Marie enjoyed going to the Southern Hills Baptist Church after moving to Chickasha, Oklahoma.

She was a woman highly loved and respected by all who knew her. She loved her husband and family and treated her children, and all of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews in a special way suited for each of them.

She will be more remembered for her laughter and love of the Lord and although she loved to play the piano, most of all, she love to sing in Church for the Lord.

Marie had two married children. Larry Foster of Edmond, Oklahoma, and his wife, Gail, and Karen Foster Beam, and her husband Mike, of Alex, Oklahoma.

The two children gave her grandchildren. Laura Foster Box, Edmond, OK, Michael Beam II, Chickasha, OK, Chad Beam, Chickasha, OK, and Lindsey Beam, Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Laura Foster Box gave Marie a great granddaughter, Bailey Box, and Chad Beam gave Marie a great granddaughter, Reagain Beam. Marie adored all of her children, and grandchildren and two special great grandchildren.

Marie had four brothers and one sister. Sid Cecil, her youngest brother, lives with his wife Margie in Grants Pass, Oregon. She is preceded indeath by her parents, and her beloved brothers Jack Cecil, Roy Cecil. Troy Cecil, Sam Cecil and her only and beloved sister Maudie White.

(A Poem clipped and saved by Marie and found in her things)

To Those I love and Those who Love Me

Now that I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.

You must not tie yourself to me with tears,
Be thankful for our many beautiful years.

I gave you love, you can only guess,
How much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love each of you has shown.
But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for a time that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on,
So if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you cannot see or touch me,
I'll be near.

And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear,

All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you this way must come,
I'll greet you with a smile and say

"Welcome home, but most of all,
Thank you for all that you have done!"

Interment will be in the Alex Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
