Samuel Steven Mettry
December 14, 1987 ~ April 22, 1991

Samuel Steven Mettry "Sam" is the 3 year old son of Craig and Lycrisha Mettry of Wynnewood. He is the grandson of Pete and Vivian Mettry. He had two older sisters, Sonya, about 9 years older, and Cassie, about 3 years older. In April 1993, identical twin sisters Cami and Carli were born.

Sam was such a blessing from God and he will ALWAYS be missed. He loved Winnie the Pooh, climbing trees and doing boy things. He was literally "A Child of Laughter" as is written on his headstone, not only because he was so full of laughter, but he brought laughter and joy to all those he encountered. He never met a stranger as he was the friendliest little guy around. He loved his family and didn't like being away from them. He also loved Jesus with all his heart. Scripture says we must be like little children to enter the Kingdom of God. Sam has shown us what that means. He went Home to be with Jesus on a Monday around noon. The day before he had told his Children's Church teacher that this was his last time to be there. When she asked why he told her he was going to go live with Jesus. God must have whispered into his ear, as the next day he did. He was pretending he was a Super Hero, eating a banana, hiding behind the curtains waiting for his sister Cassie to come home from Kindergarten. Somehow the curtain cords got wrapped around his neck, possibly to drape the curtain around him as a cape. He never made a sound as he ran full speed ahead [as he never walked anywhere!] into Eternity. His favorite song says the following, "Heaven is a wonderful place, Filled with Glory and Grace, I'm going to see my Savior's face, 'Cause Heaven is a wonderful place."

His funeral was over flowing with people. Numerous people came to the Lord because of little Sam, showing that God really can bring so good from things so bad.

We will always miss Sam, our hearts are broken. We are grateful that we know that he is not gone and we WILL see him again one day, standing in Heavens door, waiting for us to hurry up and get there.

He was a very special child, Sam, Sam the camel man, Samuel, Sammy, Sammy Whammy are just a few of the nicknames he had. Sadly, he went before us, but then he always did. He could never sit still and always had to be the first one through the door. It's typical then that once again he beat us all to the door and has gone before us to lead the way and show us where to go.

We will never be the same. Sam ,for the better, changed our lives forever. We love you Sam!
