Cora Elmina [Shipley] Bird
1898 ~ August 2, 1949

Services for Cora E. Bird, 53, of Oklahoma City, killed near Canadian, Texas Tuesday, will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Wynnewood Church of Christ.

She was riding in a car to go see her brother, Everett Carter, who was critically injured in a fall. The car's headlights refused to turn on and she panicked and jumped out. It was only going about 10 mph, driven by her nephew, Delbert Eugene Bird, who lost control, and struck a concrete culvert after she jumped out. The car rolled over and killed her instantly.

Eugene was slightly injured. Not injured were her sister, Martha Bird and a niece, Norma Jean Bird. All are of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Cora was born in St. Joseph and came to Wynnewood 33 years ago. She moved to Oklahoma City around 1944.

Her husband, James Wesley Bird, operates a service station there.

She was a member of the Wynnewood Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, two sons and three daughters.
