Leon Edwards
September 29, 1927 ~ June 12, 2018

Leon Edwards was born on September 29, 1927 in Tussy, Oklahoma to Walter Stephens Edwards and Mary Elizabeth [Tussy] Edwards and passed from this life on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the same home he was born in over 90 years earlier.

Leon grew up in the Tussy community and graduated from Burrows High School in 1947.

He served his country in the U. S. Army.

He married Betty Jane Moore on June 19, 1957 in Duncan, Oklahoma. They made their home in Duncan for 3 years before moving to Leon’s family home place where they have lived for the last 56 years.

Leon was a dedicated rancher who could only be gone from home for 2 to 3 days at a time. He had also worked as a REC meter reader.

He was proud to be a member of the Chickasaw Nation and the Chickasaw Warrior Society. Leon enjoyed taking trips with the Duncan Chickasaw Seniors. He was chosen as one of the twelve veterans to be honored on the Chickasaw Calendar last year.

He was a life long FFA & 4-H supporter in the Velma and Maysville Chapters and received a State Honorary FFA Degree. Leon was known to make Aunt Bill’s Candy for the annual FFA Auctions and it was always a big hit and a significant money raising item. His vocation was taking care of the Tussy Cemetery.

Leon was a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Betty of the home.
