William Jay "Bill" Powell
February 19, 1947 ~ October 5, 2013


Bill Powell, age 66 of Wayne, died Saturday, October 5, 2013, in Fort Walton Beach, FL. William Jay Powell was born February 19, 1947 in Purcell, OK, 1 of 6 children born to Lester Frazier Powell and Mary Emma [Stofle] Powell.

He spent his early childhood near the Scobey Community where he began school, and later at Wayne, where he graduated in 1964.

Bill joined the United States Air Force and served his country proudly during Vietnam. Bill was proud and told many stories about his experiences as the Crew Chief on an F4 Fighter Jet.

Bill married the love of his life; a young woman named Carol Miller from Niceville, FL on August 8, 1970. They made their home near Wayne, where together they raised 3 children; son, Brandon and daughters, Christy and Alicia. Bill was very active in the Wayne community and schools, serving on the School board for many years. He followed his children very closely in the various activities and sporting events. Bill was a past board member for the ASCS McClain County Conservation District.

For years, Bill worked for Civil Service at Tinker, teaching aviation and mechanics, retiring as a Supervisor in the Training Department.

Bill was a man of great faith, and a people person, who loved and was loved by many. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Purcell.

He was preceded in death by: His parents, Lester and Mary Powell and His brother, James Robert Powell.

Bill leaves behind: His wife, Carol, of the home; His daughter, Christy Powell of Wayne; His son, Brandon Powell and wife Tiffany of Purcell and His daughter, Alicia Blackburn and husband Nick of Goldsby; 5 grandchildren, Eden, Payton, Easton and twins, Austin and Braxton; His Brother, Raymond Powell of Wayne; His sisters, Mary Powell Evatt of Atlanta, GA, Twin sister Alice Powell of Edmond and Barbara Looman of Wayne; Several nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Paoli Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in Bill's memory.
