David "Zack" Powell
May 23, 1956 ~ February 1, 2020

And now abide faith, hope, love these three; but the greatest of these is love. [1st Cor. Ch. 13. Verse 13]

David "Zack" Powell was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on May 23,1956. Zack is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marla Powell of Wayne; his sons, Eric Powell and wife Angie of Lexington and Jordan Powell of Lexington; three grandchildren Blake Powell, Gracie Powell, and Mason Powell; Sister, Rebecca Jones of Wayne and brother John Powell and wife Dana of Wayne. Zack's love and devotion to his family knew no bounds. Through this, he was the tie that kept the family together. His greatest satisfaction was that he was secure in the belief that his and Marla’s two sons and three grandchildren are well on their way to being good loving people.

In addition to his family, Zack was devoted to a cadre of friends, many of whom he had known since childhood. He viewed these friends as extensions of his immediate family. Through his care of the sick, his ongoing role as a counselor to the troubled of spirit, and his many charitable gifts, Zack made all those around him better for having known him. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Wayne, Zack believed in the power of love to bring about real changes in people's lives.

An honor student at the University of Oklahoma, Zack obtained both his Bachelors and his Master’s degrees in education. His professional life was primarily spent by serving Wayne Public Schools for thirty-four years, as a coach, principal, and over two decades as superintendent of schools. His tenure at Wayne saw numerous advancements in the academic and athletic programs. His proudest moment was having the new football stadium named in his honor this past fall.

Zack's generosity of spirit is his enduring legacy.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Purcell. Burial will follow at the Paoli Cemetery. Send online condolences @ www.wilsonlittle.com.
