Betty Jo [Couch] Baker Lucas
January 16, 1930 ~ September 3, 2019


Betty Jo Couch [Baker Lucas passed away on September 3, 2019, at her home in Pauls Valley, Okla. She was 89 years old.

She was born near Elmore City on January 16, 1930, to Hobson and Effie Couch. She was the oldest of 6 children.

She married Nick Baker on February 12, 1948, and they had four children. She later married Herb Lucas and they were together 10 years until his passing in 2002.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Nick Baker and Herb Lucas, one sister, Jocie Robuck and two brothers, Bill Couch and Ben Couch.

She is survived by two brothers, Abe Couch & wife Beverly of Madison, Miss., Jake Couch & wife Ramona of Sulphur, two daughters, Shirley Currie & husband Johnnie of Garland, Texas, Patty Embree of Okla. City, and two sons, Donnie Baker and Terry Baker of Pauls Valley, two stepdaughters, Elmyra Casner of Sinton, Texas and Ramona Elliott & husband Larry of Muldoon, Texas, fourteen grandchildren, Jeff Currie & wife Heather of Allen, Texas, Tim Currie of Garland, Texas, Crystal Kelley & husband Ronnie of Tuttle, Jaime Gibson & husband Jeremy of Mustang, Steven Embree & wife Stefanie of Okla. City, Glenna Norman, Tricia Gorden & husband Kevin of Pauls Valley, Latia Humston of Eufaula, Randall Brown & wife Amber of Stratford, Sarah Baker, Brendon Baker of Pauls Valley, Niki Baker & husband Johnny of Lindsay, Megan Baker of Norman and Sonnie Baker of Pauls Valley.

She was also blessed with 31 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. She was devoted and very generous to her family. Her sister-in-law, Georgia Wilson of Maysville was like a sister to her and they always shared a special bond. Judy (Campbell) Ellis of Pauls Valley was like one of her children as was Jimmie Keenom of Pauls Valley.
She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins along with many, many friends. Her dearest friend, Geraldine Jones was always there for her. She will be missed by many for her gift of gab. She and Nick operated several restaurants in the Pauls Valley area and were known for their famous barbeque.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Paoli Cemetery. Interment will be at Paoli Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
