Nealie Wright
September 18, 1898 ~ January 1, 1979


Mrs Nealie Wright was born September 18, 1898 at Gene Autry, Oklahoma.

She moved to Wynnewood about 60 years ago.

She was a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church, also a member of the Old Settlers Union.

She was loved by the entire community.

She passed away January 8, 1979 after an extended illness at 2:30 pm in a Pauls Valley Hospital.

Survivors include 3 sons, Rpscoe Wright, Wynnewood, Noble Wright, San Diego, California, Mitchell Wright, Kansas City, Missouri, 3 daughters, Mrs Lorene Jackson, Mrs Johanna Walls, Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs Lovie Smith, Wynnewood, 1 brother, Otoliver Patton, Cleveland, Okahoma, 31 Grandchildren, 43 great geandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews to witness her going.

Rufus D. Wright Sr
March 15, 1949 ~ October 2, 2013


Rufus D. Wright Sr, a resident of Wynnewood, OK, was born on March 15, 1949 in Wynnewood, OK to Daisy [Coates] and Roscoe Wright, Sr. He passed away on October 2, 2013 in Pauls Valley, OK at the age of 64.

He attended Oakdale and Wynnewood Public Schools.

Mr. Wright was a lifetime resident of the Wynnewood area.

He worked for the Wynnewood Cotton Gin and Haskell Lemmon. Then went to work for and retired from Garvin Coun ty District #3 as a road foreman.

He was the first African American to hold a position with the county.

On July 24, 1967 he married his true love Effie [Turner] in Pauls Valley, OK.

They resided and raised their children Sonia, Rufus Jr, Rodney and Stephanie in “The Big Woods” Wynnewood.

After retirement he enjoyed having cookouts, visiting the family and friends, working on automobiles, collecting die cast cars, watching football, ministering and spending time with his sweetheart Sister Effie.

Mr Wright was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and Pastor of Oakdale Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers - Roscoe Wright Jr, Billy Wright, Homer Wright and Bethel Wrighgt; sisters Carolyn Wright-Phillips and Alta Wright; his wife of 45 years Sister Effie Turner Wright.

He is survived by 2 daughters and sons-in-law - Sonia and Alan Rathburn of Clinton, KS - Stephanie and Octavio Basaldua of Wynnewood, OK - 2 sons and daughter-in-laws - Rufus Jr and Clara Wright of Wynnewood, OK - Rodney Wright of Pauls Valley, OK, 2 sisters - Alice Kirk of OKC, OK - Shirley Sonskie of Spencer, OK - 3 brothers and sisters-in-law - Johnny and Mary Wright of Midwest City, OK - Richard and Donna Wright of OKC, OK - Ricky Wright of Wynnewood, OK - Sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Through his work with the county and ministry he made many friends and wil be truly missed.

Carolyn Ann Wright-Phillips
November 6, 1958 ~ March 30, 2011


Carolyn Ann Wright-Phillips was born on November 6, 1948 to Roscoe and Daisy Coats-Wright of Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Carolyn attended schools in Wynnewood. During this time she was active in Afro-American Club, Pep Club, nursing at Mid-America Vo-Tech, and a member of Mt Zion Baptist Church in Wynnewood.

On November 18, 1981, Carolyn was joined with Otis Phillips and in this union they were blessed with a daughter, Latasha Latrece.

In 1990, she was blessed with her son, Desray “Ray” Wright.

Carolyn accepted Christ at an early age and continued to support her home church all her life, attending the “Annual Old Folks Reunion.”

In her professional life, Ms Phillips worked for the State of Oklahoma Juvenile Division for twenty plus years.

Carolyn will be remembered most for her hospitality, kindness, and beautiful smile. Despite her medical condition, she lived her life to the fullest; helping family and friends every step of the way.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Daisy Wright; brithers, Roscoe Jr, Homer Lee, Bethel and beloved Billy; and one sister, Alta Mae.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, two grandchildren that she cherished,, her sisters and brothers, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
