Arthel Leon McCurley
October 25, 1921 ~ October 28, 2010

Arthel Leon McCurley, 89 of Pauls Valley, was born October 25, 1921 in Elmore City to Ethel Mae McCurley and Claude D. McCurley. He passed away October 28, 2010 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

Arthel served in the United States Army during World War II with the 377th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and the 316th Ordinance Battalion in France during the Normandy Invasion receiving the Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, The EAME Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon.

After his service with the military, Arthel was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as Quartermaster and Post Commander of Pauls Valley's local post 4576. He also served as Inspector for the Department of Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars, State Life Membership Chairman, National Committee Member, District 8 Sr. Vice Commander, District 8 Commander, District 8 Quartermaster, National Aide-De-Camp, State Deputy Chief of Staff, National Committee to promote Life membership, and the All State Team Post Commanders.

Married for 57 years, Arthel is survived by his wife Jean McCurley of Pauls Valley; daughter, Linda Daugherty of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; son, Steve McCurley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Jamie Daugherty of Haskell, Oklahoma; great grandson, Joshua Cunningham of Haskell, Oklahoma; sister, Hazel Porter of Dallas, Texas, and brothers Claude [Mickey] of Pauls Valley, Byrl of Pauls Valley, and Bruce of Friendswood, Texas.

He will join his father and mother, two sisters, Lottie Stephens and Dorothy Hines; and brothers, Lloyd, Calvin, Buford, Herman and Larry.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 1, 2010 at 2:30 pm at Beaty Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Stephen Reed. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Interment and professional services are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
