Mary Maxine Gabbard
February 18, 1944 ~ September 29, 2010


Mary Maxine Gabbard, of Pauls Valley, was born February 18, 1944 in Stillwell, Oklahoma to Floyd Cleveland and Minnie May [Heritage] Smith.

She passed away September 29, 2010 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 66 years.

Mary Maxine Smith grew up in Buckeye, Arizona where she met the love of her life, Luther M. Gabbard. They were married in Buckeye, Arizona on February 26, 1960. They came to Pauls Valley and established their home here and to raise their children in the Pauls Valley area. Her career as Cook spanned 25 years in Health Care. She worked at the Pauls Valley State School, now Southern Oklahoma Resource Center, until her retirement on February 28, 1998. Pauls Valley has been her home most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and May Smith; her brother David Smith and sister Billie Jean Smith.

Surviving family include her husband of 50 years, Luther M. Gabbard of the home; two daughters, Carla Paty and her husband, Lindsey, of Wynnewood and Sandra Gabbard of Pauls Valley; two sons, Paul Gabbard and his wife, Melissa, of Norman; and Martin Gabbard and his wife, Angela, of Pauls Valley; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlee and her husband, Matt, Jessica, Yasmin, Jordan, Jaime, Joseph, Bradley and Briana and her husband, Mike; three great grandchildren, Kaidance, Alazander and Ava; one sister, Margie Ward, of Lovelle, Maine; and one brother, John Smith, of Sallisaw.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Rev. Lindsey Paty and Rev. Bob Lyons. Interment will be at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Interment and professional services are under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
