December 14, 1936 ~ February 21, 2019


Luther Martin Gabbard, Jr., of Pauls Valley, passed away February 21, 2019 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years.

Luther was born December 14, 1936 in Paris, Arkansas to Dorthy Sue [Clayborn] Gabbard and Luther Martin Gabbard Sr. He grew up in south Texas but has made Pauls Valley his home most of his life.

Luther began his tour of duty on March 21, 1961 in the United State Army. He earned the rank of SP4 (T) and served his country until his discharge on March 20, 1963 and was then transferred to the Army Reserves and served there until March 20, 1967. Later he began work at the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center where he served over 25 years and earned the position of Senior Maintenance Technician before his retirement on February 28th, 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Martin Gabbard, Sr and Dorthy Sue Gabbard; his wife, Maxine Gabbard; 5 brothers, D L Gabbard, Bob Gabbard, John Gabbard, Jim Gabbard and Jerry Gabbard; and 4 sisters, Margie Anderson, Ida Mae Williams, Ellen Welch and Betty Johnson.

His surviving family include his children, Carla Paty and husband, Pastor Lindsey Paty, of Wynnewood; Paul Gabbard and wife, Melissa Gabbard, of Noble; Sandra Gabbard, of Wynnewood; and Martin Gabbard, and wife Angela, of Wynnewood; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Lindsey Paty. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
