Dorothy Wayne [Wadley] Byrd
June 7, 1935 ~ April 30, 2016


Dorothy Wayne Byrd was born in Pauls Valley, OK to Ed "Shorty" and Mertie [Freeman] Wadley June 7, 1935, the 1st of five children. Surrounded by her family, Dorothy passed this life April 30, 2016. Dorothy spent her early childhood in the Walker community, later moving to Pauls Valley with her mother and father and attending Pauls Valley schools.

On July 9, 1955 she married E.B. Byrd in Gainesville, TX. The couple made their home in Pauls Valley and together raised 3 children; Barry, Gary and Kari. Dorothy loved music, family camping trips and traveling. She and E.B. were members of the Wheeler Dealer Square Dance Club and the Squirrely Sam's Camping Club. In 1987, Dorothy retired from the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center, Pauls Valley State School. Following her retirement she and E.B. spent many years traveling the United States. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Pauls Valley.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mertie Wadley, brother Corky Wadley; nephew Kevin Sean Sanders; great-nephews Donnie Scott Sanders and Dakota Lane Deaver and brother in law Bob Kelley.

Her survivors include her husband of 60 years E.B. Byrd, children Barry Byrd and Darlene of Duncan, Gary Byrd and Paula of Princeton, TX, Kari Whitefield and Troy of Pauls Valley; grandchildren Keith Byrd of San Antonio, TX; Lindsey Carson and Chris of Pauls Valley; Matthew Byrd, Princeton, TX; Ashley Feathers and Chad of Tuttle; Emily Byrd of San Antonio; Meagan Byrd, Princeton, TX and Jordan Byrd of Duncan and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ouida Duckworth of Duncan; Neva Owens and Donnie of Pauls Valley and Eddie Kelley and sister-in-law, Debbie Wadley, both, of Paoli; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, several cousins and a host of friends.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Stufflebean-Coffey Chapel of Remembrance officiated by Bro. Dwayne Johnson. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Pauls Valley. Professional services and interment are under the direction of the Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Barry Byrd, Gary Byrd, Keith Byrd, Troy Whitefield, Chris Carson and Matthew Byrd. Honorary pallbearers: Jim Wayne McCann, Danny McCann, Scotty Sanders, Chris Owens, Rance Wadley, Chad Feathers and Drew Hodges.

The family would like to thank Valley Hospice for the loving care provided to Dorothy and requests in lieu of flowers contributions are made to Valley Hospice, Pauls Valley, OK.
