Eugene Orden "Gene" Jones
August 27, 1914 ~ January 27, 1980

Services for Gene Jones, 65, 611 Arch Street, are planned Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Criswell Funeral Home. He died Sunday at his home.

The Rev Joe Dixon will conduct the service with burial in Old McGee Cemetery, Stratford.

Mr Jones was born August 27, 1914, in Garvin County and had lived in the Ada area most of his life.

A member of the Baptist Church. He was a former employee of Ideal Cement CO and retired in August from the Department of Transportation.

Survivors include four daughters. Delois Park, Ceres Calif., Kay Groover, Ceres, Calif., Shirley Buker, Victor, Mont., and Teba Eugene Jones, Ada; a son, Ross Jones, Plano, Texas: two brothers, Vernon B. Jones, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Jimmie D. Jones, Fremont, Calif., and one sister, Mae Standridge, Moreland, Ark.

Marlow: Joe Thomas Jones passed from this life Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Marlow. He was 85.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 11 at the First Baptist Church in Marlow with Dr. Joe Ligon officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at 3:00 on Monday in the McGee Cemetery north of Stratford, OK. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral and Cremation Services of Marlow.

Joe was born on December 5, 1933 in Benton, KY to Wesley Jackson and Mary Lou [Mathis] Jones. He grew up in the Benton, KY area and graduated from Benton High School, then attended Junior College in Paducah, KY, eventually earning his Masters Degree in Education at East Texas State University.

He married the love of his life, Carla Jo Miller on July 20, 1957 in Elfrida, AZ. They have been married for 61 wonderful years.

Joe taught school for over 34 years in Texas, Illinois and Oklahoma.

After his retirement, He and Carla moved to Marlow in 2014 and have resided there ever since.

Joe was a great athlete and was outstanding in many activities and truly enjoyed competing with others. He loved to play golf, tennis and softball as well as shoot his guns. He was also a huge Kentucky Wildcat Basketball fan. Joe was a man of various interests and in addition to his love of sports, he also loved music; all kinds of music from Patsy Cline to ZZ Top and he instilled that love into his children.

Joe was a faithful attendee at church and was very involved in his various churches throughout his life. He was a current member of the First Baptist Church of Marlow. Joe also loved his country and served in the United States Army for 2 years. Joe dearly loved his family and he will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Carla of the home, his son Rusty Jones and wife Amanda of Pea Ridge, AR; his two daughters, Cathy Crockett of Ada and Gayla Ligon and husband Joe of Marlow. Joe had 8 grandchildren, Benjamin Jones and wife Tanisha, Toby Jones, Jessica Ballard, Lauren Ballard, Dylan Ballard and wife Kelsey, Andrew Ligon and wife Elizabeth, Aaron Ligon and wife Emalee and Brooke Arnold. He also had 7 great grandchildren, Hayden, Aubrey, Ryker, Brayden, Brodie, Adi, Wyatt and the eighth great grandchild Blakely, who is due in June. Joe is also survived by 3 brothers, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Jones, and Charles Gregory, all of Kentucky and his two sisters, Pat Tubbs and Jackie Conn, both of Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother who raised him, Altie Jones, 1 daughter Janna and his brother Tom.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Ligon, Aaron Ligon, Dylan Ballard, Mike Ramsey, Al Bennett and Sam Richardson.
